Flipping through Pro Football Prospectus (football nerds' book - yes! I admit it!) they have the following comments of interest on the Bengals:
including hits (after throwing the ball) and sacks, Carson was the second-most hit QB in the league last year (behind our old pal Kitna). This state of affairs will surely improve this year, with more cohesion on the line.
By their metrics, they rate us the best play-action passing team in the league, although only Arizona used the play-action fake less frequently. Maybe this needs to come up in the playcalling a little more? It'll probably help slow down the opponent's pass rush some too.
They rate us the best passing team out of two-WR sets in the league. However, they rate us the worst passing offense in the league out of 4-WR sets! This may be related to the first point about our struggles in pass protection. These struggles were probably worse with 4 WRs out there and fewer blockers to protect Carson. Again, something we should improve on this season. This is surprising, though, given that the TE and RBs haven't been a huge part of our passing game. No info on our 3-WR sets, I'm afraid. That would have been interesting.
TJ has more passes thrown at him than any other #2 WR in the league. Our seldom use of the TE in the passing game likely contributes to this. Anyway, if Chad ever complains about not getting the ball enough maybe we can give him a break since he's already sharing the load more with his #2 guy than any other #1 guy in the league! :)

Joe,
Just goes to show how much we missed Tab Perry last year. I think he was the biggest loss between his returns and his ability to play the TE position on 3rd down (even more than Levi's absence). He has the size/skill to block like a TE or H-back and the WR speed to really hurt the defense. I was at the 1st (KC) game last year and he was huge with his blocking (as I recall he had one of the downfield blocks that sprung Rudy for that 23? yard TD run). He was ling up as a TE. Having him healthy this year will be huge. He is one of those key ingredients we sorely lacked last year.
