Two questions to ask : could the NFL refs be bought like the NBA refs, and what games do you suspect might have been fixed or tampered with?

It seems to me that alot of stoolers fans has been avoiding this thread...too many memory's of how they really got that SB win and the road to it. It shows money can buy everything. It's amazing how many bad calls was made in their favor.
Oh thats right!!! the Refs didn't make any bad calls, they did it all by themselves. I guess Mr. Vick is inocent of being involved in a dogfight ring too!!!!!!

It looks like a bengal fan hijacked the thread first.
Also, the issue of refs fixing a game has been discussed at length on this board. Queue picture of beaten dead horse

Talk about highjacking a thread.
Oh, that's no problem.
See, someone will start a thread either to provide interesting bits of information and/or to take a good-natured "shot" at one's rival. Sometimes, people will begin a thread seeking information or looking to take a poll and/or get people's thoughts and ideas on a given subject.
Along the way, someone will come in and make a post that has nothing to do with the general content of the original post, but using a word or phrase someone said. Usually, this is done as a joke, but sometimes that post spawns more similar posts and the next thing you know a thread started discussing one thing ends up discussing something not even remotely related. This is what as known as "highjacking" a thread. It's akin to someone taking a flight to Pittsburgh, but then highjacking the plane and taking it to Honolulu instead.
Is that enough? Or shall I keep talking about highjacking a thread?

The whole thread was about ,can NFL refs be payed off like the NBA ref was... quite simple but I guess the simple minded will never quite grasp it.
To bad this site is loaded with backward thinking people like philhose and steely and others who think it can't happen to the NFL. If you think it can't then you're as dumb as the people who think they can lose weight eating donuts all day while typing responses to message boards.

Could it happen? Maybe. But let's take a closer look at WHY it happened in the NBA. From what's known about the situation, it appears that the guy was not someone who just wanted to pocket a few extra bucks. He was a desparate guy with a serious gambling problem.
Now, I don't preclude the possibility that such a thing could happen anywhere, but I don't think that it's something that has the potential to be widespread. In fact, in light of the NBA's problem, I think it highly likely that most professional sports leagues in the future will institute background checks on their refs in order to ensure that they do not have a gambling history.
As for the previous scenario of a ref simply wanting paid, it's an intriging theory, but as far as I'm aware, there's not one example of such a thing that you can point to in the modern era of any sport.

Not to mention the fact that there's so many officials on the field for 1 NFL game. It'd make it extremely difficult for an NFL official to affect games AND to do so without getting noticed.
