Bengals WR Chad Johnson told a group of reporters after practice that he's cooked something up for us for the season opener against the Ravens on Monday Night Football. "Week 1, if I touch the end zone you will laugh for a lifetime. I guarantee you," said the Pro Bowl wide receiver to a gathering of reporters following a sultry Monday morning practice in full pads at Georgetown College. "Marvin (Lewis) might sit me down for the next game but it will live on for a lifetime."Quite the promise there. As for being fined? Well ... "I know it's stupid to say and it's not good, some people aren't going to like it but I've set aside (fine) money again, like I did in '05 and that was a ridiculous year where I had fun," said Johnson. "I'm having fun again. I've got to have fun. This is a business and you've got to understand the business, the ins and outs of it, and to keep my mind off of it I continue to have fun. This will be a year to entertain, not just myself but the fans in Cincinnati and around the world. This is going to be a fun year."

Everybody in the league wishes they had Chad on their team. If they say otherwise....they are in denial. Having fun is one of the best aspects of the game. I guess when you're good enough to make most DBs look like high school varsity....It is pretty fun. I wouldn't take what Chad said to lightly though. He takes his football very seriously.....and has fun doing it.

That would be the same defense that the Ravens played twice last year and combined to get 33 points in two games? Something seems off with the math here....where is that 31 points in 1 game coming from?

Not to mention that 14 of those points came directly off turnovers, one int returned for TD and a fumble recovery that put them at like our 20.
The fact is that the Ravens offense can't put together a drive on our defense and walk away with anything more than 3 points. I have to check my horoscope because if he's even thinking 31pts then the stars must be aligned in Baltimore.

Oh, but you forgot about Willis McGahee. I'm sure he'll put up 3 TDs a game on his own. Not like Peko, Ahmad and Geathers are going to make him their own personal tackling dummy or anything.
By the way, I know it is nitpicky but to the original poster, you said "I hope we beat them 31-7." Well, this is a BENGALS message board, so the appropriate pronoun would've been "you" unless you were somehow attempting to convey that you are an official member of the Ravens team, and we are merely fans.

I guess aside from the first 14 points they scored on turnovers in the first meeting the Bengals Weak Defense pretty much shut down the Ravens offense the rest of the first game and all the second game. They couldn't even score big on Cleveland ,and you think they are going to score 31 against Cincy... Maybe both games total if your lucky.[*-)]

Im kind of bummed. CJ is going to end up doing this celebration after the Bengals first drive. The rest of the game will be anticlimatic yet satifying as the Bengals roll to 1-0.

You know what? I like Chad. He's entertaining, he loves the game, and he loves his team.

But I don't wish he was on my team, or any other team. He's the Bengals' guy. Almost every team has a player that is like a face, or an attitude, or identity for that team. Take him to a different team and that's lost. Just not the same player anymore...

Taking Chad out of Cincy would be a crime. His blood, sweat and tears are in that team, and that's something you just gotta respect.

When is Ocho Mohawk going to a be a free agent or has the Bengals got him locked up in a long term deal?
Dude....week1 is going to be off the hook! So many great games!

Chad is locked up until 2011. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. TJ on the other hand might after the 2008 season...

I hope not. I think with the raise in the salary cap we can afford to keep him. But at the same time we need defensive help badly. If Chris Henry can come back and be his old self (On the field that is) and either Tab or BB step up this season, it might turn into a difficult decision for the Bengals FO.
TJ deserves a lot of money and can definitely get it elsewhere. I still say no matter what we should resign TJ. He's just one of those players you don't want your team to lose.
Plus you never know what TJ's goals are. He knows he will be a #2 here behind Chad, maybe he wants to be a #1 elsewhere. In addition he did miss some of the OTA's this season in a quiet/passive way of showing some discontent for his current salary...

Really? So if we were to take a poll in Chicago of who the Bears would rather have on their team, Chad Johnson or Rex Grossman, who do you think would win? Unless Lovie Smith was the only one allowed to vote Chad would win by a landslide.
And I know you don't live in Chicago anymore but the sports talk radio stations around here were talking about how great it would be to have a deep threat WR like Chad Johnson. (And how Davis or Bradley hopefully will turn into a consistent one)

Chad does concentrate on the games. There are many nights he spends in the Paul Brown Stadium offices because he stays so long looking at game film and other things.
Don't hate Chad 'cause he tries to add fun to a GAME. Especially given the fact that he works extremely hard at being the best he can be.

I find Chad amusing. I think the NFL has gone overboard on banning endzone celebrations. As long as you're not engaging in humiliating an opposing player, I always found the creative celebrations to be funny - like Horn's cell phone, TO's sharpie, Chad's putter or proposing to cheerleaders....
I am fine with this attitude from Chad. He needs to get himself motivated this year, because he couldn't manage to get the ball into endzone against the Ravens in 2006. The Ravens have something to prove as well, because they haven't won at Paul Brown Stadium since 2004. Honestly, if he scored a TD and had a hilarious celebration I wouldn't care as long as the Ravens pull out the win in their house.

As pro sports have proved time and time again... $$$ is greater than player relationships. Kinda sad really.. the NFL minimum pay is more than most people can ever dream of making in a year.

You'd think these guys would focus on finding a killer combo making a dynasty and carving out their names in sports history.

Be interesting to see what TJ does, if he does leave will he be as effective as a #1 without Chad helping to draw the coverage or will he end up like Peerless Proce did when he left Buffalo and the help he got from Eric Moulds. Hopefully he stays and we never have to find out.

I'm reeling from the profound statement.

In other news, it finally happened. Chad yesterday called out the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense and said he was done doing poorly against them! I guess those years of suckage against our D has finally gotten to him!!! [H]

But I didn't see anything hostile or malicious in his remarks. It was just another case of Chad being Chad. It's all in good sportsmanship. But I think he has it ingrained in his mind that he's supposed to pwn every defense he goes up against, and can't stand it when something gets in his way of that. I think it's good he's doing this though, cause that shows that we've been doing something right! And it will only motivate our D to play harder against him. Will he manage to do better than he's done the last couple seasons? Only time will tell.

All I can say is, I can't wait for week eight!!! And then to watch him get flattened by Smith. [:P]
