Calais Campbell - DE Miami (FL)
I'm sure you all have heard about him. He is a 6'8" 280lb freak of an athlete at defensive end.

2005: 12 Games (1 Start)
35 Tackles
5.5 Tackles For Loss
2.5 Sacks
1 Forced Fumble
8 Pass Break Ups

2006: 13 Games (12 Start)
84 Tackles
20.5 Tackles For Loss
10.5 Sacks
3 Forced Fumble
4 Pass Break Ups

2007: 12 Games (12 Start)
50 Tackles
12.5 Tackles For Loss
6 Sacks
1 Forced Fumble
2 Pass Break Ups

His numbers are a little down from last year, but in my opinion I think that he is going to be a bigger version of Mario Williams, who is having a break out year this year. Since we are projected to have the 9th or 10th pick as of right now, I say we try and trade down to ariound the 15th pick and take Campbell...assuming he declares and doesn't have a monster combine or something like that.

Campbell is the player I'm most interested in (At our draft position). I think his numbers have gone down because teams are doubling him more. Which can cause problems for any DE (Just look at Julius Peppers this season)...

Calais Campbell if he enters I believe would be the biggest DE in the NFL.

Mario Williams is 6-7 291.

I would like to have Calais gain a couple of pounds of muscle to help him be more powerful.

I don't think Campbell will be dominate in his first season. I see him taking a similar route to Mario Williams. Struggle for most of your rookie season, then bulk up a little in the offseason and then wreak havoc...

I only watched one Miami game this year and Calais wasnt getting double teamed and he was getting handled pretty well. I cannot remember what team he was playing but they were nothing special. Maybe it was a top tier tackle but i doubt it. He did nothing to impress me and make me think he could be a big time player at the next level.

However his physical traits are tremendous and if he has strenght and speed to pair up with that size then he could be a force in the NFL if he is properly coached.

I would rather have Gholston or Chris Long because i think they will be able to contribute right away while Campbell may take a couple years. Either way a top notch DE prospect should be our first pick.

I agree with all of the above. If Vernon Gholston performs half as well in the Nat'l Championship game as he did in the Michigan game, I'd grab him even if we pick in the 7-10 range of the first round. He's a tazmanian devil rusher.

Although I'm tempted to grab a DE, DT, and LB with the first 3 picks, our offense has bogged down enough that we may have to spend another top 3 round pick on offense.

I'm also starting to wonder if TJ and Chad should remain together. Watching those two sulking on the bench together is an image I'm going to have trouble getting out of my head.

I think the dilema is Calais Campbell or Gholston...well, id be happy with either.....But we need at least one or two dl too....Okam and Dre Moore would be a nice combo!

Id trade TJ and get a lot more picks, pick up a good reciever in the 3rd.....

Campbell has to get stronger. If you look at pictures of him, he is very skinny. He played better his soph year when he had better talent on the d-line with him.

hey remember he was the only one to show up last last years whipping against the gators he was all over the place ,also the only way we take Calais is if Vernon is gone

ive never seen the guy play and from his stats he sounds like an outstanding player. personaly i say we should go with justin smith and Robert Geathers on the other end and use the draft pic on something else

side note on justin smith.. so far every year except his rookie year hes lead our line in tackles.

yeah tackles are great but his tackles are NEVER in the backfield...this team needs distruption in the backfield and you need a defensive end who can do that ie geathers....we would be better off with a high pick who specializes in getting to the qb...between brooks geathers and (campell or gholsten) we would add a lot more sacks than we have now

I agree Smith needs to go.I say bring in Gholston he is the better end then Campell, but don't get me wrong Campell could turn out to be better on the NFL level who knows? We better get one of those 2 and a DT in the 1st 2 rounds though.

Gholston on the other hand has a great first step the frame to get bigger and is already strong as a horse and he is consistent, when nobody showed up for the gator game he did all game so that's the type of player we need:thumbsup: so cinc4ever1 i agree with you all the way buddy

I think its really a toss up. You could get campell who could be a top 5 DE or could bust and be nothing. I dont see Gholston being at top 5 DE but i see him being a really good one alot better than Justin. They both need work.
