View Full Version : possibly 34 teams
Bengals in Toronto
02-03-2012, 09:27 AM
Commissioner Roger Goodell said on NBC Sports Network's Costas Live that if the league places a team in Los Angeles, the NFL probably would add two more franchises to make it 34.
Goodell said the league "doesn't want to move any of our teams" and "we probably don't want to go to 33" if the NFL decides on expansion over relocation. An odd number of teams would present scheduling issues. Goodell's statement is good news for fans of the Rams, Jaguars, Vikings, and Chargers, as those are the franchises most linked to a Los Angeles relocation.

LA is a definite but does this mean Toronto has a shot or where else would the other team go

I'd be more curious what it means for divisional/conference play. 17 teams in a conference? Then what about divisions? Seems very difficult to work with.

I would still be a Bengals fan but I can still dream maybe they should add 8 teams instead

What about San Antonio or Orlando in addition to L.A. The Vikings were once rumored to be moving to San Antonio when Red McCombs was the owner of that team.

Texas has two and Florida has three (which may be way too much already considering their population). I think if they do add a couple teams, it's likely to be in markets that are either ginormous or without any other teams nearby. I think LA and a foreign team (Canada or even in the UK) are likely.
I'll be surprised if they add any teams though.

If Toronto get's a franchise, they'd most likely just be stealing the Bills away from Buffalo.
Honestly, knowing Goodell, it would probably be London. Which would be lame....IMO.

So back to the days where the divisions weren't balanced. Yeh, thats fair for those divisions as it also screws up the scheduling year in and year out.
And to think they extended Goodell through 2018 season. By using my superior math skills, I deduce there will be 7 NFL Drafts that he will get booed at.

Why would they screw up a system that works perfectly with the schedule and division play?

Pretty sure a Utah team would be a no go considering attendance to Sunday games would be very slim. I live in Utah and my LDS friends who like football almost never watch a whole game if it's a day game.

I have a dream and in this dream. I dream of a mirrored NFL league with 32 teams and interconference between the two leagues of four games. This mirrored league, lets call them the XFL[I know, I know]. The teams of the XFL would play their games on Saturday with two home games on Sunday against their NFL counterparts.
There will be a Friday night game of the week and a Saturday Night game of the week like the NFL's Sunday night game of the week. Two conferences with either 1 or 2 teams in LA. And of course Utah would be playing their games on Saturday.
Roger Goodell sign me up.
San Diego and the rams will be in the LA as soon as possible. No way they can go to 34 the talent level in the NFL is already seriously lacking and thier would be scheduling problems.

People like you were arguing against the merger of the NFL and AFL when both leagues doubled because of the talent as well as the scheduling problems with CBS and NBC.<_<

Just saw the news and this is at least a year or so away. I can see LA getting an NFL team based on the number of potential fans. As for the other site, it will depend on a city that can support a team. Maybe in the South or Central part of the country.

if you add two more teams you would have two divisions with 5 teams whitch would bring an unfair advantage/or dis advantage to certain teams. The system isnt broken dont fix it.

The present amount of teams and divisions is not even 10 years old. In fact, the amount of teams and division structure have not been stable in any recent 10 year span. If you think the owners are going to give up on getting nonrefundable bids from cities looking to get into the league as well as an entry fee of joining the league, then I need to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.

NFL franchise are expensive not sure how many cities could afford to have one. Secondly there are many teams in the NFL that are struggeling in thier markets and are looking to relocate to cities that can afford them.

I'd like to see a team in Columbus but it would probably never happen due to protests from Cleveland and Cincy. We could support a team here though. San Antonio is the only market bigger that doesn't have a team. That's the only town other than LA that it wouldn't tick me off to see a team go to other than here. A lot of the other places that get mentioned are about half the size of Cbus.

1. Los Angeles, California
2. Toronto, Canada
3. Portland, Oregon
4. San Antonio, Texas
5. Las Vegas, Nevada - Good god what kind of trouble would that team get into.
6. Omaha, Nebraska
7. Sacramento, California
8. Salt Lake City, Utah
9. London, England
Personally I guess I like it the way it is now. If Los Angeles has to have a team they can move Jacksonville out of Florida since the state has 2 other teams and no one likes the Jaguars anyway lol.

Doubt it. The bills have a crazy loyal fan base. But their owner is just as senile as Mike Brown.

Yup....I was raised in a strict LDS home, and due to this I didn't have much exposure to football until late in high school. I wasn't even allowed to watch T.V. on Sundays. For this reason, I was a rather late blooming football fan.....damned religious rules.
