Time for me to give it another shot. Notice I am still sticking with the Homeristic (toned down a little less than half are Homer picks) theme but I will attempt to make it less Noobish. This really is how I feel too. I am getting sick and tired of players who have no dedication to the team they play for and they only worry about the I in TEAM. so maybe if we get a bunch of local guys they will actually care about the Bengals. I think as of right now most of this is would be possible.
Im going to change some things around from my first draft according to our recent team transgressions and my increasing knowledge about available prospects. The draft will depend on how free agency treats us and since everyone has a dream free agent pick up I will tell you mine. If we pay top dollar to any free agent i think it should be Terrel Suggs (I think the Ravens bring him back though). He has been in the NFL 5 years and is only 25, that is a huge plus. Pairing Suggs up with the also young yet experienced Geathers would give us a very bright future at the DE position. I would be confident in our DE's for years to come if that was the case. This would also open up more possibilities for us in the draft. It would leave us in position to take the best player available. If this were the case I would still take Gholston because I think he is a machine. Just imagine Brooks, Geathers, Suggs, and Gholston can you image the 3-4 or 4-3 variations that we could run with all of those prototypical IMPACT PLAYERS. My goodness it would be great. But if Chris Long, Dorsey, Laurinaitis, and Gholston (and maybe Ellis) were unavailable I would would gamble on Calais Campbell and make him gain 20+ pounds and move him to DT. I could go on forever with what ifs but those are some of my preferred. The following draft is based on if we have no impact free agent signings.
1. Gholston or Laurinaitis. I am beginning to lean more towards Gholston but the way they both continue to move up in mock drafts makes me doubt that we will be able to have our choice of the two. I also still want to believe Laurinaitis that he will go back to school so I say Gholston.
I still think we need to trade TJ and Deltha (and maybe a later rd pick to seal the deal) in order to move to somewhere in the middle of the first round and possibly add an extra 3rd rd pick. So I'm going to say we get someone like Buffalo's pick, they could use a possession WR to pair up with Lee Evans and a veteran CB.
2nd 1st rd pick- Frank Okam/Sedrick Ellis. I think Okam's stock is rising and even though DT are plentiful this year we have other needs to fill and I would rather fill one of our glaring needs first in order to get the best possible prospect. I like his massive frame.
2nd rd- Dre Moore DT. We have no depth this year and we will be losing Robinson, Thornton and Smith. Maybe our staff will figure out that a defensive line is actually pretty usefull. I would like to see a rotation of Myers, Peko, Okam, and Moore. I would enjoy seeing Moore, Peko, and Okam progress and become great players in this league.
We would have 4 3rd round picks if we made the TJ trade and got a 3rd out of that. Steinbach making the probowl should pretty much guarnatee we get a compensatory 3rd rd pick. This is where some noob kicks back in: I would still trade Rudi and Jeremi for another 3rd rd pick. I dont get many Bengal fans that like the idea of trading TJ or Jeremi but if we incorportate a TE it would soften the loss of TJ, plus Owen Schmitt would add another dimension to our offense. Kinda like Rudi but younger, faster, and meaner plus I doubt there will be little if any decline in the blocking capabilities if he were our FB, because Jeremi hasnt made our power run game anything special.
1st 3rd- Owen Shmitt FB WVU- Going to be one of the best there is
2nd 3rd- Martin Rucker /Jacob Tamme TE- an obvious need
3rd 3rd- J Leman LB- Fingers crossed for Odell and Pollack but we need depth
4th 3rd- Kirk Barton O-line- Huge and has been starting since 04.
4th- Anthony Hoke DE UC
5th- Brandon Gibson WR Washington St. Or best WR available
6th- Digger Bujnoch UC O-line- His dad played here so that could motivate him. and they tried him at TE when he was a freshmen so he must be athletic. I think he could turn into a nice pulling guard kinda like Steinbach. He played a nice game when he did not allow Selvie to get the QB and he was one of the leading sack getters this year.
7th- your guess is as good as mine but I say Haruki Nakamura from UC. He hustles and Tackles well and I think he would be better than what KK was.
quick list with my preferances
1st- Gholston DE
1st- Okam DT
2nd- Dre Moore DT
3rd- Owen Schmitt FB
3rd- Martin Rucker TE or if superb WR prospect falls
3rd- J Leman LB
3rd- Kirk Barton O-line
4th- Anthony Hoke DE
5th- WR with the best hands available he doesnt even have to be that fast Or TE
6th- Digger Bujnoch O-line
7th- Haruki Nakamura S
one day I will go to the Bengals cap web page and plug these guys in and see how it adds up.

one day I will go to the Bengals cap web page and plug these guys in and see how it adds up.
Lets start with the first pick with how this team is looking I think picking Gholston would be a pretty big reach he should go around pick 15. The Little Animal would be a very good pick up. He would bring alot to a Defense in skill and the identitiy and attitude the Defense is lacking.
As for trading Deltha and TJ. I think Deltha will most likely be cut but he could end up being traded. TJ will not be traded I hope he gets a extension in the offseason but there is to much chemestry between TJ and Carson and Chad to trade him. If we would trade TJ and Delth we would not be able to get a first and third round pick. We might be able to move up to late first round but I do not think early second and a fourth would be more likely.
If we would some how move up to the middle of the first round we would not be picking between Okam or Ellis. Ellis will be gone early and is better than Dorsey. We should really consider him if he is available when we pick. Okam would be a big reach he will probably go in the second round but the earliest I see him going is late first maybe around 25.
Dre Moore would be a good pick up in the second he is a solid player and is really hard to place when he might be going. He could slip to the third round or could move himself up to the first. I have no real problem with this but i do not really want to take to DT's that early.
Trading Rudi and Jeremi is not a good idea. Rudi will most likely be gone. He probably will not be able to get traded because of the cap problems it might cause for the other team so they would most likely have to rework a contract with him.Jeremi will not get traded because Marvin loves him and his blocking skills. I do not see anybody really interested in him he is one of the higher paid FullBacks and that will take alot of people out of the running. I think it would not be a bad move ot draft somebody to replace Jeremi though. He has done nothing to really show me he deserves that money so I would like to have somebody come in and give him some competiion.
After the third round it is really up in he area. Alot of those players in the 4th to the 7th are bad draft spots to me but all of that can change so fast that I do not even think its worth mentioning.

I think Laurinaitis's stock is just about as high as AJ Hawks was making him a top 5 pick. If he comes out I'm afraid we wont even have a shot at taking him. If he is as good as the whole world thinks he is then the Pats will snatch him up before we even get a chance.
The only reason I am skeptical about Ellis is because DT's generally have a very hard time adapting and I think his size could effect that. I have seen his size range from 6'1" 285 to 6' 2" 305 and they are usually generous on the measurements. He would only have 5 sacks if it werent for his three against Stanford but 5 is still very impressive for a DT and the other two I mention. I'm sure my opinion will change many times before the draft gets here about which one I like. As I write this Sedrick continues to grow on me because he sacks the QB the most. I have changed my mind already and would take Dre Moore ahead of Okam after looking at the stats I just saw. Ellis is definitely a force.
I still am for trading Rudi, Jeremi, TJ, and Deltha if we could get some good value.
Since this topic will be around for months I mite as well get the stats together for everyone. This is where I got the following stats from:
http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/footballMenu.html
2007 stats tackles solo, tackle total, Sacks solo, Sacks total, Qb hurries, TFL solo,TFL
Frank Okam- 16, 33, 4, 6, 7, 6, 9,
Dre Moore- 23, 58, 6, 6, 1, 6, 11,
Sedrick Ellis 28, 56, 8, 9, 1, 11, 14,
career stats
Frank okam- 44, 92, 6, 9, 11, 12, 17,
Dre Moore- 55, 123, 9, 10, 1, 14, 21,
Sedrick Ellis 74, 140, 16, 19, 3, 25, 31,
the total columns represents solo + assists. the last column is TFL total.
After all it is just a mock. Just one of millions that will be made. Things will change stocks will rise and fall, this is just what I think now.

Well I had the stats spaced out all nice and neat to make them easy to read but for some reason it squished them together. Sorry I tried.

I do not know about the Little Animal's stock being as high as AJ. AJ was so high becuase he was so fast and the Little Animal has not shown he is as fast as AJ( not that he is slow). I also do not see the Pats going after him because they like Vet LB's so i see them probably trying to pick some up in FA.

one day I will go to the Bengals cap web page and plug these guys in and see how it adds up.
i know absolutley nobody agrees with me on this but i dont think we need to draft a DE because we done got two good ones. with that said i dont see why we would draft one first round. i know everyone wants smith gone but like ive said in the past every year execpt his rookie year hes lead our d-line in tackes. last time i said this someone said his tackels are never behind the line and he doesnt put presure on the qb but i watch him intensesly in todays game against the browns and he was putting massive presure on the qb. i dont understand why everyone wants him gone?.. and on the opposite end of him we have robert geathers who is amazing.
i say we go for a line backer 1st round. i know we have a million of them but the majority of them stink. no offense or anything but i think we need a good linebacker that will bring good leadership on and off the field which is something we dont really have and justin smith is one of them who is a leader on and off the field so thats another reason i say we keep him.
one other thing i dont agree with and ive said it in the past is trading tj. hes a leader and he has amazing talent. also him and palmer always seem to be insync and i mean the guys in the pro bowl for a reason. also him and ocho cinco have been together since college and they have amzing cemestry. seperating them would be like a peanut better and jelly sandwhich without the peanut butter.. im all up for trading players but not tj. im sure we could work something out by trading Oneal and Rudi.

I do not think many people want him gone because they do not think he is a good player. He is a very solid End and maybe the most solid in the league. The reason people want him gone is because he wants more money than he is worth. If we could resign him for what he is worth then that would be great and I would be all for that.
