I put in Madden 12, after a few seconds, the screen goes black and stays black. I then get a message saying "Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found." Would anybody know why I'm seeing this message or what could be wrong? Thanks to whoever can help.

Some people online suggest that you might need a firmware update for your hard drive. I'm guessing you could do that through the PSNetwork. You can still get on that right?
Also found this:
My Ps3 turns on and gives me an error message saying that there I dont have the correct hard disk. Normally I would have to go to the recovery menu and it would normally work. However, this time it doesnt load the menu but it still comes up with the cannot start.
http://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/call-duty-world-war-hacking-questions/538091-correct-hard-disk-not-found-any-help.html
If that doesn't work, I found this thread from years ago:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t636691-ps3_start_correct_hard_disk_not_found
Possible solution from it:
Please e-mail me @ mrronahan@hotmail.com the procedure that fixes this problem is easy , no computer required.
#1 push power button ps3 powers up , wait three seconds then push and hold power button untill you here three fast chirps. wait five seconds and you will be presented with the ps3 bios page. note: if this does not work please e-mail me your sony model number as some versions require a different button configuration to be pushed thanks good luck good gaming . i can also be reached online @ LLadnar420 this is my ps3 online address for the ps3 network
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any harm to your PS3 caused by passing along other's suggestions, and I do not own a PS3 myself.
Hope that helps, lemme know if none of these work and I'll see if I can find something else...or just google "ps3 The correct hard disk was not found"

I did see that specifically mentioned on a bunch of sites, but forgot to mention it. I'm also wondering if this is a new hard drive or one he's had for a while...

What you need to do is take your PS3 to your nearest Gamestop.
Then, pick up an Xbox 360.
Enjoy!
For the record, I am NOT a fanboy. I chose the 360 for a variety of reasons but I don't care if others chose the PS3. All that matters is you're happy with your choice. If I could afford it, I'd own BOTH. There are some PS3 games I wish I could play (like Uncharted and Infamous).

Might be a good idea to start saving up for the next gen that will most likely be coming out next November/December. These might be really expensive if you want one early.

if your other games are working rent madden 12 and if that one works just switch them.
i had an issue where one day my orginal xbox just stopped playing one of my games but it worked fine in other xbox's and the one i rented worked fine..
might be worth a shot if your other games still work.

I wish like hell I could turn back time and buy myself a PS3...
I got my Xbox 360 nearly 5 years ago (high school graduation present). My parents gave me $500 to get myself anything I wanted, and seeing that my PS2 had just broke about a month before that, I figured it was time to move on to one of the Next-Gen consoles.
At the time, the PS3 was ridiculously overpriced... I desperately wanted it but the 360 was considerably cheaper. I splurged and bought myself the Xbox 360 Elite ($150 more than the standard model) in hopes of avoiding the dreaded Red Ring of Death (the Xbox 360 version of the problem the OP seems to have).
The clerk assured me the Elite would not have the RRoD, as did many articles I read about the console... what a bunch of **** that was. I got 3 RRoD's in 4 years.
I've sent the damn thing in 3 times for repairs, and every time I do it takes longer and longer for them to return it. (First time took 5 weeks, second time about 7 weeks, third time nearly 11 weeks).
A bunch of buddies I lived with in college had PS3's, and it is by far the better system IMO. They've had theirs for years and never had any problems with them, and the overall game play for sports games (only games I play) look and feel much better. If my 360 ***** the bed again, I'm just gonna send it in for repairs and sell it when I finally get it back... and in the meantime I'll pick up a PS3.

Also, when I'm playing certain games, like Madden 12, the picture freezes. Why is this happening and what can be done?

One cannot truly defend Microsoft and the RROD, however that is no longer a concern. It doesn't happen anymore. I've had 1 RROD with my Xbox, sent it in for repairs, didn't cost me anything for the repairs and only had to wait 3 weeks for my Xbox.

Any place in the Northern Kentucky area repair PS3s? That's where I live. Or any place for that matter might help.

at least microsoft ponied up and fixed the systems and reembursed anyone that had paid for a repair.

Forgot to emphasize that the RRoD was the only one I've ever had with my Xbox.

Is it a console issue or just the fact that Madden games are probly the worst pieces poorly made, bug-ridden garbage produced?

Me too. The PS3 apparently has a yellow and a red light of death, but I've only heard of it rarely. But that might just be because I don't own one, idk.

Well then that's just plain unfair  Only three weeks?? For what was apparently a permanent repair? How did you get so lucky?

Mine did that within one year of purchase. I sent it to Sony and they gave me a refurbished PS3.

Well, I also didn't play my Xbox 24-7 either. I only played a few hours a day. Since my divorce, the amount I'm on my xbox has increased dramatically, but still no issues. (knock on wood)

Hey, don't forget Sony's issue with the hackers last year. What was that like 2 months without online service?

After I got my one RROD I did a little research which indicated it is mostly caused by heat issues. Downloading your games to the hard drive decreases heat, since the disk drive isn't being used constantly while you play. This also eliminates the noise that Xboxes make while the disk drive is actively reading a game, since once they're downloaded they don't need to be actively read anymore.
I've downloaded all my games since on the new one. And when I trade them in/sell them, I just delete them from the hard drive. Even if the RROD is no longer an issue, I'm sure it couldn't hurt for the system's longevity.

the orginal issue was with the sodering of some components that failed when the system got to hot.
But yes the installing each game that you play will help fight that. the problem was the orginals came with 20gig hard drives.. which wasnt alot of space lol.

Neither do I, as much as I wish I could play it 24/7. I'm lucky if I can play it every day. Usually only a few hours on the weekend... It's sounding more and more like I got screwed over... "Elite 360" my ***
