Our Cincinnati Reds are tied for 3rd worse Record in all of baseball, and I know I am not the only one who does not feel like Changes have to be made before the trading deadline proceeds. So you'll take the role of the GM of the Cinncinati Reds, you make the moves (realistic moves!) you give me what you think would make our team better.
I'll start it off.
First of all I am SICK to my stomach of the under-acheving veterans on our team, it disgusts me how players like Milton, Stanton, Weathers, Coffey and Saarloos have not stepped up for us this year and Milton and Weathers have not really stepped up for us at all.
I would release Mike Stanton, because I honestly do not think you will get anything for a 40+ year old pitcher, so Mike Stanton would get cut.
With Mike Stanton getting cut I would call up Left Handed Pitcher Phil Dumrarit from Louisville
Eric Milton still has some value to him, if he plays in a ballpark like Boston that is not a Homerun ballpark he could be a 9 wins 5 loses kind of pitcher. SO I would trade Eric Milton for 2 Prospects and Cash to any team that would take him.
I would send Todd Coffey down to Triple A for the time being, I think he needs rest and he would get it in Triple A. With him going down this makes room for LHP Bill Bray
Juan Castro would get cut. I know he does alot for or Organization but the fact he hits a very low AVG and his defensive skills are not as good as they used to be.
With Castro getting cut we can call up UTIL Anderson Machado.
I would find a way to trade Javier Valentine and David Weathers for a prospect catcher and SS.
Valentine is nothing but a PH/Emergency 1st basemen. So he is useless really. David Weathers, needs to go somewhere were the closers job is not on his shoulders.
With those two trades happening I would call up Edwin Encarnacion and Michael Gosling.
I know it seems like I am filling my team up with young kids, but our Bullpen is old and we need a fresh new start.
Here is the 25 man roster:
C:
David Ross
Chad Moeller
1st Base:
Jeff Conine
Scott Hatteberg
2nd Base:
Brandon Phillips
SS:
Alex Gonzalez
Anderson Machado
3rd Base:
Ryan Freel
Edwin Encarncion
LF:
Adam Dunn
CF:
Josh Hamilton
Norris Hopper
RF:
Ken Griffey Jr.

Starting Pitching Rotation:
1. Aaron Harrang
2. Bronson Arroyo
3. Kyle Loshe
4. Phil Dumurait
5. Matt Belise

Bullpen
LHP Bill Bray
LHP Michael Gosling
LHP Jon Coutlangous
RHP Kirk Saarloos
RHP Victor Santos
RHP Jared Burton
RHP Brad Salmon

I would have John Coutlangous as our closer
Brad Salmon as the set-up man
The rest, situational

We need to get younger and all of those people in the bullpen would help more than the bullpen we have now.

I say start trading your big name players for guys from the Marlins farm system - that team sure knows how to find talent. It's just keeping/paying them that's the problem...
