Congratulation Benton, I'm really happy you were inducted into the HoF. Along with the other inductees, Benton is one of very few posters that I feel carries a lot of weight in their posts. One of the more intelligent and well-rounded posters we have, easily.

Especially politically, we see very eye-to-eye, but even on the rare occassion that we happen to disagree, Benton is one of those people that makes me really question my stance because he's so concise and thought-provoking.

This induction is very well-deserved and, as I told Danno as well, I'm sorry that it took so long to make this post.

Honestly, I was really surprised when I got the message. There's a few names that always come to mind when I think of the message board, and I wouldn't rank my contributions to the site up there with theirs. But thanks to the powers that be for considering me alongside some of this site's best.

I guess, really, I've got my brother to thank for this. Unlike most fans, I have no connection with Cincinnati. No family from there, had never been there until I was almost 30. But I became a Bengals fan 1989. We weren't a big football family (dad blew out his knees playing football in high school, so he didn't usually like the reminder), but we always watched the Super Bowl. And that year my brother picked the 49ers. Being the annoying little nine year old brother, I wanted the other team to win.

And I've been a Bengals fan ever since. (As a sidenote, my brother stuck with his team, too... along with the Cowboys, Steelers, Ravens, Titans and almost every AFC team who isn't the Pats. At least he's got standards).

I guess I was always a bit odd. I played football, but whenever I thought about a dream job, it was never being a football player. It was writing about football, specifically the Bengals. I got halfway there, writing sports for a few years before realizing I was better at covering courts/crimes than sidelines/locker rooms. Honestly, I think just being a fan is better— you can be as biased as you want to be.

But thanks to the message board and all the members. I've been a member of a few over the years and hands down this is the best site, and best group of posters. There's always something interesting on the board and a lot of good folks posting it. And, for someone who is way out of market without a lot of Bengal fans in his area, the site has been a good way to connect with other fans. From the draft to game days or just the offseason, this site always makes me proud to be a Bengal fan. Thanks for the honor and being such a great community to be a part of.

Congratulations Benton! Add humble to the qualities I admire in you. You get your point across eloquently with few words, which is something I've always struggled with.

I'm certain a lot of people had at least an inkling that you were a professional writer well before you ever made it known. Your unique brand of humor has left me facing the dreaded message of having to spread rep around innumerable times (like right now for example) and your nomination is proof that like me, this entire board is honored to have you and your one of a kind posts to read.
