2012 Hall of Fame Inductee: pookdogg7

Congratulations to pookdogg7 (http://boards.bengals.com/member.php?u=11258) for induction into the Message Board Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2012!

You know this guy may very well be my brother from another mother. So it did not shock me at all when I found out he has the same name as my real brother. I really wanted to just post some cash, guns, and Babes but that would just not be classy enough for the HOF. I remember the classic Rudi vs Watson threads and thinking who is this guy echoing my exact thoughts? Well at that moment I knew he was a genius. He grew out of Jungle Noise and showed the sense of humor and intelligence that we have all come to know and respect. He should have the title "Master of Google" under his user name along with HOF. A master of all areas on this Board pook has earned a seat in the Hall.

He was actually on his way up to party for the draft and hang out when he was in a bad car accident. While talking to him on the phone I did get to break the news that he had been inducted to the HOF along with me. It gave us some good momentum going into the draft after the bad mojo of the accident. Getting elected to the HOF was a great honor and introducing my Bfam in the same class is an even greater one. So without further ado, I introduce pookdog7 to the Bengals MB HOF........

I remember when I first logged onto Bengals.com and went into combat in the smack forum, Pookdogg7 was a fellow wing man.

I was born in Cincy in 1977 and my family moved to South Florida just before my first birthday. They have remained Bengals and Reds fans to this day and root for no other teams in the NFL or MLB, just like me. Growing up with Miami being the closest NFL city, I loathed the Dolphins and always longed for home, which I only got to visit on summer vacations.

National coverage was sparse and the first time I remember seeing the Bengals, Boomer and friends were tearing up in the late 80s and the rest of the country was forced to take notice. I will never forget seeing classmates who were Dolphins fans doing the Ickey Shuffle when I was 11...and the Lombardi that might have been but never was.

Soon after that, the media abandoned us yet again and I spent my Sundays rooting for the Dolphins to lose while waiting to see highlights of Corey Dillon, since entire Bengals games were never actually on national television anymore. I also spent a lot of my time reading Bengals boxscores in the local paper as well as books about former Bengal greats from Ken Anderson to Kenny the Rattler who worked their magic on the field before my time. Such was the life of a Bengals fan far away from Cincy.

Then excitement and national media coverage returned with the drafting of a #1 overall pick and a new direction under Marvin Lewis. And around this time I discovered every transplanted Bengals fan's dream come true: The Sunday Ticket! I haven't missed a game since and never will have to again.

And then I found a place where it didn't matter how far you were away from PBS - a place where you could talk to fellow Bengals fans and discuss your opinion of the team, individual players and coaches, or talk about just about anything imaginable. I read these boards for months before ever deciding to add an opinion of my own....and once I did I was hooked. The people here often argue about the team, individual players and coaches and everything else under the sun - but when one of us is in need, we can put any differences aside and band together like the family we are.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that two of those board family members are currently in need: Tiger Blood (Doc) and Daddy Cincinnati. If you haven't read their stories I encourage you to do so, one's a sticky but both can be found in the Klotsch section.


Thank you everyone, for appreciating my contributions here as much as I appreciate yours. You're all Hall of Famers in my book.

Special thanks to the Mods, especially those who made this board possible, and anyone who may have had a hand in my election of the first class of HOFers, you know who you are. And an extra special thanks to CloeHokie for making it seem like I might have deserved this. You're definitely also a Hall of Fame caliber friend.

My respect for your opinion is unmatched and it's been that way from before I even started posting on here and just read posts. I too am a long distance Bengal fan that lived for years on tiny scraps of info on my beloved Bengals. Even now I can't get the daily fix that local Cincinnati talk radio and sports news provide. But who needs all that crap when I have the Pooks posts.

A "toast" to my fellow expatriate. No one appreciates these boards like we do.
