bengals We should have a great pick at 9

The last time there were any less than 5 offensive players taken in the top 10 was 97. And there were only 3 offensive players selected in the top 10 in 97.

So if the draft continues to stay with the theme of the previous 9 drafts there should be at least 4 offensive players taken by the time we pick. That means we should end up with someone from the group i consider the top 5 D prospects. Dorsey, Long, Ellis, Gholston, and Laurinaitis. If none of those guys are there or Laurinaitis doesnt declare I say we trade back and try to get an extra first next year, or get into place to take Calais Campbell, and along with that add an extra 2nd this year.

This draft will enable us to focus heavily on the defensive side of the ball, and we should be able to land a playmaker at #9. Assuming that Mcfadden, Brohm, and jake Long are taken before we pick that still leaves us with at least one of the guys you mentioned before...and yes I believe laurinitis has to come out this year, he will be a top 10 pick. Of the guys mentioned I believe if available we have to go Ellis or Ghoulston, we have to get better on the DL and provide some sort of pass rush and get penetration. The only exception at 9 is if McFadden dropped but that is dreaming. We must upgrade the defense in all areas this draft...and I wouldn't be upset if we traded back for an extra day one pick either. My ideal 1st round would be:

1)Bengals trade down to @15 pick up an extra 3rd and select Kenny Rivers OLB USC, he fills a need on the outside and allows us to upgrade an area of need on the offense in the 3rd round too.

2nd round-DT/DE
3rd round-DT/DE and TE/OL

I think Jake Long and Darren McFadden are guaranteed to be off the board and probably at least one other offensive player. There's a few teams in dire need of a QB but this year's class is pretty weak compared to the last few years. Hopefully one team takes a QB though and maybe another OT like Ryan Clady will come off the board before we pick as well.

I don't think this year's crop of QB's is that weak. I watched Brian Brohm carve UC to pieces. NFL scouts are normally pretty good at sorting individual talent from overall team performance. Brohm's performance was great, I thought, despite Louisville's other weakness. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him go ahead of Ryan.

I will concede, however, that neither guy is Jamarcus Russell...

Desean Jackson( receiver for Somewhere out west) could be picked before us to. Making that another offensive player taken.

so its looking like Jake Long, Run DMC, at least 1 QB (Brohm or Ryan), another Tackle like Clady or Sam Baker, and possibly Kenny Philips and Desean Jackson all have a chance to push into the top 10. Lets hope so. The more offensive and defensive secondary players we have go before us the better off we will be. If Ellis and Gholston are on the board when its our turn to pick at 9 we should seriously consider trading the Saints for there 10th overall pick and getting both of them.

More good news. There have been 10 (if i counted correctly) DT's taken in the top 10 since 97. I know there have been a lot of highly touted DT's the last 10 years but only 10 have gone in the top 10. I think we have a good shot at Ellis or Dorsey.

Hopefully Dorsey gets completely dominated tomorrow by the Buckeyes his stock drops and he falls to us. Thats highly unlikely but the chance of us getting Ellis or Dorsey is still there.

I see two QB's taken early, Darren Mcfadden, Jake Long, Desean Jackson and maybe another Tackle. That would mean 5 offensive players taken before we get are pick so that should leave us a good Defensive player available.
