Anybody else think it's odd that the Ravens will play both of their games against Cinci before playing against Pittsburgh?

Yeah... they knew what they were doing. The first match up is the Sunday night game.. the next is week 16 which is "flexible".

HOWEVER! Peyton really, really HATES losing to New England! He hates it more than he would care to admit to the media. If THAT happens... well... I feel sorry for any team that follows because Peyton will be royally PO 'ed and he'll want to take it out on that team and score like 100 touchdowns. So... maybe... you might want to root for the Patriots to lose to us - I'm just saying! In the meantime, we'll be tuning up with our division doormat - the Texans - before we have our annual slugfest with the Patriots. |

August-October under Marvin Lewis 2003: 3-4 2004: 2-5 2005: 6-2 2006: 4-3 2007: 3-4 2008: 0-8 18-26. Hardly 'starting off well'. However, in the seasons they did, in fact, start well with winning records, they either made the playoffs (2005 - the last time they has 2 losses going into November) or missed by a single game (2006 - more on that later). November results under Marvin Lewis 2003: 4-1 2004: 3-1 2005: 2-1 (both wins against Baltimore, FWIW) 2006: 3-2 2007: 2-2 2008: 1-2-1 15-9-1. November hasn't been the problem for the Bengals. Last year's debacle of a season was the only season under Marvin they were under .500 in that month. In all his previous seasons, there was still hope for a playoff berth during November and they played well under that pressure. December/January results under Marvin Lewis 2003: 1-3 2004: 3-2 2005: 3-2 2006: 1-3 2007: 3-2 2008: 3-1 14-13. Still not a losing record for this team under Marvin as the season draws to a close, though definitely more of a concern than the previous month. The most troublesome of these results are 2003 (w/Kitna) and 2006 (w/Palmer) where the team had a playoff berth in reach. A lot of things are falling into place for the Bengals. They have a history of playing better in the second half of the season. They have proved to have the resilience to make the clutch plays down the stretch when necessary. They are starting to establish the kind of physical mentality that is necessary in the AFC North. They have the confidence in knowing that they can beat the division's best franchises this year even without playing their best. It's encouraging, no doubt, but they still have to play the games and they still have to execute, because noone's rolling over, especially not the Steelers and Ravens, who have been through this battle more than once. Should be a fun couple of months.

From my perspective, the Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals have equal chances of going deep into the playoffs. Other than the Broncos, Patriots and "us" (Colts), there's really no other AFC teams in the way of the Super Bowl. |

Just. Happened. Thanks for doing all that reseach and fact checking 34!!!! The Bengals haven't even hit their stride yet, and they are still humble and looking for improvment. Mavin even said he wasn't totally satisfied with the Bears game. That speaks volumes of where this team is at mentally. Especially because the players seem to feel the same way Marvin does on this issue. They are all still hungry and looking to improve, and establish some consistancy on offense and defense.

And in some regards they are right, because we don't really know how this team will handle success if they make it to the post season. They seem to have the right mentality for a playoff team, but we'll have to see how they execute it. Bengal fans see what our team is about and truely believe we'll go the distance this year, and deep into the playoffs. Now the team just has to back up our belief and earn the respect from the league and divisional fans it's already earned from Bengals fans. Believe it or not Steelers and Ravens fans, we respect you (or at least I do). And why wouldn't I, you've accomplished quite a bit and have earned the respect. Most of any fanbase just hates the arrogant jerks that a very successful franchise has. I hate arrogant Patriot fans, and I despise Yankee fans. Because you can never really tell who are the true fans or the bandwagoners jumping on the latest "fad" of the winning team. Right now it's getting hard to tell the true Bengals fans from the bandwagoners in Cincy, because we're starting to be successful so far this season. I will be honest, I never had the time to follow football before and even though I was from Ohio, I was never really a Bengals fan until we got Carson Palmer. 2005 was a dream, and my friends and I didn't jump ship the 3 years after, because we're true fans. And we're getting some dividends this year for that loyalty. But it's our turn now, and it's going to be that much sweeter when we win it all having punched though respectful opponents like yourself. I sure hope it happens!

I see the record and i do see your point but what that doesnt show is who they lost to. and i seem to remember them losing some easy games that would have had them making at least a wild card birth in some of those years im not saying the ravens are any better then that because they seem to only come to play every other year lol but the steelers do seem to win the games that there supposed to and upset some teams when it really counts and i dont see that with the former bengals teams im not gonna pretend that i know for sure and im to lazy to go and check lol |

Now... the reason I'm emphasizing this year is because I think next year, our franchise will be playing lights out football. Everything will be in synch and all indications are that we'll have a pretty dominant team - next year - not this year. It's pretty exciting watching the AFC North this year. You guys are battling it out and there's been some pretty exciting games, especially with you "Cardiac Cats"! Lol! It's been pretty boring in the AFC South. Our 2 normally strong rivals - Titans and Jaguars - have fallen flat on their faces, leaving only our division doormat - Texans - to nudge us awake from going into a total coma before the playoffs. We'll be playing one of your division rivals though. We go to play the Ravens after our annual slugfest with the Patriots. Depending on the outcome of the Patriots game, the Ravens will either have a chance to beat us or they'll get their butts handed to them courtesy of a very ticked off Peyton wanting to take it out on someone because he just lost to the Patriots - again! Lol... Peyton really hates losing to Tom Brady. I don't like the Patriots much either... so... I'm with Peyton on that! Anyway... sounds like the next couple of weeks ought to be exciting for the Bengals! |

I will agree with you that the AFCN has been really crazy this year, we're the only divsion in the AFC in which our 3rd place team has a winning record. The other 3 divisions only have 2 teams with winning records. Now that could all change here in the next 3-4 weeks. November is really going to define the AFCN for the playoffs. I'm just glad the Bengals are being competitive this year. I'm sure the Steelers and Ravens think otherwise, since for the past few seasons it's been them duking it out for playoff spots.

SCS just reminded me as to why the Ravens wait until later to play both their games against Pittsburgh...because they whined to the NFL about playing prime time in Pittsburgh. They were supposed to be the first game and then they threw a hissyfit.

2003: 1-2 - win vs KC (13-3, won AFC West) 2004: 2-3 - wins at BALT (9-7), at PHIL (13-3, NFC Champion) 2005: 1-1 - win at PITT (11-5, Super Bowl champion) 2006: 2-5 - wins at NO (10-6, reached NFC Championship game), vs BALT (13-3, won AFC North) 2007: 2-3 - wins vs TENN (10-6, wild card berth), vs CLEV (10-6) 2008: 2-3-1 - wins vs JAX (5-11), vs WASH (8-8); tie vs PHIL (9-6-1, reached NFC Championship game) This is where your point is made.... 10-17-1. I'd even go so far as to throw out the wins over Philadelphia in 2004 (Week 17 game where they rested their starters) and 2008 Jacksonville (a win over a 5-11 team is hardly significant in this discussion), which puts them at 8-17-1. Certainly could use some improvement there, though I have to wonder how those numbers compare to other teams that have hovered around .500 for much of the same period of time. After all, if that record were better, there wouldn't be as many teams that did have equal of better records. Losses in November-January to teams with worse end of season records 2003: vs CLEV (5-11) 2004: None 2005: vs BUF (5-11), at KC (10-6) 2006: None 2007: at San Francisco (5-11) 2008: None This is promising. In fact, just as we tossed out the PHIL & JAX games above, the loss to KC came in a game the Bengals were resting starters, so that one goes. That leaves 3 losses to teams with lesser records in the last half of the season over 6 seasons. That means they're generally beating the teams they're supposed to beat. With four teams on the schedule that should finish with worse records (OAK, CLEV, DET & KC), it's very encouraging.

This is the same Houston Texans team that lost to the Jaguars in Houston earlier this year and the Jaguars got shutout by Seattle who stinks 41-0, they barely beat the Rams a few weeks ago in overtime, and just gave Tennessee their first win of the season this past weekend. The bottom line is the Steelers havent lost a game since they played the Bengals and lost they are 4-0 since, and beat two pretty solid teams in that stretch with good offenses in the Chargers and the Vikings. It's all fine and good you can keep thinking the Steelers arent as good as last year. The Bengals will get a hard reality check when they come to Heinz Field for the rematch in 12 days from Ben Roethlisberger and the defending champs...There wont be no 4th quarter meltdowns this time by the Steelers and last second comebacks from the so called "cardiac cats" in Pittsburgh. |

Can't think of many playoff teams that rolled over every one of their sub-par opponents. Just like it's hypocritical of a Bengals fan insisting the Vikes gave away or lost the game, the Steelers didn't win it when the same argument could be made about the Steelers-Bengals game earlier this season, it's also hypocritical of a Steelers fan criticizing the Bengals for having to go to overtime to beat the now 1-7 Browns when the Steelers needed to do the same to beat the now 1-6 Titans.
