People who said Rugby and Soccer make good arguements, but I always say Hockey.
I mean, you need endurance, plus the great hand-eye coordination, plus the strength to take a hit/ give a hit into the boards.... thems just insane. And you are constantly on the move. Soccer is a lot, especially Forwards, but D men- not so much.

yeah, thats what drives me nuts about soccer. I mean, hoceky has its share of divers too (that number would decrease by half if crosby wasnt in the league
) but soccer players are the worse. Someone glances off them and they take a dive. Be a Man dammit!

If its just major American sports, hockey. If we are talking the world, I would probably put soccer in almost the same class, and rugby above both of those though. I think sports that require stamina are the most demanding. I honestly think real water poloers are some pretty incredible athletes, but know that answer will get laughed out of the room.

I voted for basketball, 'cuz hockey's not on there.
If you've ever played hockey, you know how insane it is for your body. Skating around is a lot harder than running around. But basketball players are obviously in great shape too... What bothers me about baseball players is how often guys just jog to first and barely get thrown out. The only thing I was good at in baseball was running the bases, but the best players were always kinda pudgy kids with either a good arm, or a good swing...not that it's easy, but man, you just have to run a little faster... |

I cant believe MMA isn't an option. These guys put themselves through hell for months to get into top physical condition for a TRUE gladiator sport. Out of all the players in each of these sports I bet over half of them couldn't hold up in MMA. Then I would have to give football and wrastling
(im talking about the real stuff.)

this is a pretty tough one, because the several different sports you could make a strong case for all require different athletic attributes. out of the ones on this list, i chose basketball. while football players are great athletes, i dont think the great majority of them could run the court for 4 quarters in a fast paced basketball game.
on the flip side, could the vast majority of basketball players handle the play in/play out hitting of a football game? basketball is a physical sport, and the people who tell you it isnt either have never played or half assed it, but it isnt based on tackling like football is. both football and basketball require a physical toughness to take the pounding, and aerobic ability to be able to run the court/field for 4 quarters. basketball leans much more towards the aerobic end, while football leans more towards the physical side. i chose basketball though, because each player has to have a higher level of hand eye coordination than football players as a whole (not that football players dont have good HE coordination, but you can be a good football player without it) as for hockey and soccer, i think you could make a strong case for these as well. both require great hand eye coordination, and quick reflexes. ive played a little bit of soccer, and its as physically demanding as any other sport ive played, and like basketball, underrated in how physical it is. ive never played hockey, so i cant comment from any personal experience, but i think you can make a strong arguement for it as well. its constant back and forth like soccer and basketball, but its probably just as physical as football is. oh yea, one athlete id never mess with is a rugby player

PERFECT example. Look how hard the football and basketball players are working out. There are 2 shots of a baseball player hitting a ball in a t shirt casually. Where are the Baseball players in the weight room? Lol

Re: Which major sport has the best all around athletes?
I think you could take a baseball player put him in any sport and he could at least show athleticism and coordination. I don't believe you could do that with most players from other sports, except for QB's. I'd bet that 8 outta 10 wide receivers swing a baseball bat with pure ugliness-- I'd bet that 8 outta 10 baseball players could run a crisp route and make a catch exactly like those wideouts, all things considered of course.
