Default Friendly reminder about our 9 Draft Picks no one seems to remember

In years past almost every draft pick made this team. Whether it was the PS or the 53 man roster. For the first time in ages we have a team that is very strong in a lot of positions. I foresee that at least 4 draft picks won't make the 53 man roster and 2 more won't make the practice squad.

2 firsts, 1 2nd 3rd and fourth picks make it. 5th round and back might not and I foresee won't make the team.

This is a new concept to Bengals fans I think. We are so used to almost every draft pick making the team. You think the Steelers don't cut majority or the Pats? Just saying. You all are so concerned about so many picks.

So let's be real here.

5 of the 9 picks have a great chance of being players for the future. The rest maybe's.

Wouldn't you rather trade picks around to target 4-5 players we know will make the team and contribute, then keep every pick and lose them to lack of space. Think about it!

EDIT: Also as someone made me just think about. We can trade up in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th to grab players we want using the 5th rounders. Think about it if there is a run on RB position in the 2nd. We want someone like doug martin. So we trade 2nd and 5th to move up. the 5th rders give us ammo to move up in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

Sure, now all we got to do is find a team willing to trade us some high picks for 5th and 6th rounders

I could see the following areas be draft choices.

RB, G, T, WR, DE, DT, LB, CB, S...that's nine spots where I can give a justifiable reason.

Edit..make that 10...we could use a back up TE.
Edit..11..maybe a back up C

I choose to look at it this way. The more picks you have, the higher the chances of finding the right prospect that has what it takes to make it in the league. Year after year,, draft after draft there are late round picks that prove they should have been taken over first round busts. The draft is a crap shoot no matter what the size of your scouting department is and teams just don't know how these college players will work out in the NFL until they get them in training camps and preseason games.

Doubt it.

Most of the draft picks will make the team or at least sign to the PS. After three we'll look for projects and situational guys. That's probably where we'll get a G, backup C, at least one RB, a CB to compete for a spot and maybe a WR. All those guys will have strong upsides, as per the usual. But that's a great way to find future talent. Take a guy late, bild him up the way you want.

But the idea we're going to package some 4-7 around picks and bump up two spots in the first or maybe 10 spots in the second is kinda not ever going to happen. They don't want to and most teams won't be interested.

Wow ... you totally missed the point. I was talking about using the picks as ammo.

What if we see there is a run on RB in the 2nd round. We want to trade up from our 2nd rounder to a higher 2nd round pick? Package that with 2 5ths or 1 5th.... and move up to grab the player we want.

I think what the op meant was combining say our third and a fifth to move up in the third. I don't know the trade chart off the top of my head. With all those picks, it does give them the opportunity to maybe pickup a specialist, such as a blazing punt and ko returner to replace Tate if they want.

Now that you've drafted for all those spots, go over our roster and see where we just signed FAs that are very very unlikely to be cut and you'll see that some of these draft picks will be cut. Using them to move up in rds 3 and 4 is a great diea even if we end up with only 4-5 total picks

We traded a guy who wasn't in our short term or longterm plans and who was going to get cut for a pick. If it comes out that he does have a degenerative wrist then a lotta people are gonna be pretty happy we got what we did for him.

I think you would have trouble getting the chargers to trade 18 for 21 if you threw all 3 5th roundes and the 6th at them.

I understand what you are saying, in that hypothetical scenarios are far from reality. At the same time, I think moving up may be a possibility, because a Team like the Colts, who are cleaning house and rebuilding, may consider additional picks if a Team wants to move up to the top of round two or three.
But top of round two is blazing hot, and it will take alot to move up there.

I would rather use the picks. The FAs we are signing and the deals they have been getting are not an accident. This team is in a full on youth movement and they are looking for young players to replace these guys.

It isnt good odds that you find one future starter in the 5th rd, let alone 2 or 3. If they can find a way to parlay those picks to move up and grab a player they really like I think its the smarter move.

Keep in mind that I do know that there are exceptions to every rule so no need for anyone to show me all the examples of 5th rounders turning into probowlers.
