Just for perspective, here's the list of players we either worked out or brought in last year I highlighted the guys we either drafted or signed later. Pretty small number, huh? I don't think we can gauge much from what we're doing this year either, except you can tell we were looking heavily at QBs and WRs last year. So what's the trend this year?
WORKOUTS: OG Danny Watkins (Baylor), WR Torrey Smith (Maryland), QB Nathan Ederle (Idaho), OT Chris Hairston (Clemson), RB Evan Royster (Penn State), S Chris Conte (Cal), S Rajric Coleman (Utah State), WR Vincent Brown (San Diego State), LB Martez Wilson (Illinois), RB Bilal Powell (Louisville), OT/OG Johnny Culbreath (South Carolina St.), CB Chris Marsh (Utah State), K Nate Whitaker (Stanford), S Wyatt Middleton (Navy). LOCALS WHO HAVE WORKED OUT OR WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN LOCAL PRO DAY ON APRIL 13: WR Joe Horn (Ashland)*, LB Greg Jones (Michigan State), WR Kyle Rudolph (Notre Dame), RB John Goebel (UC), WR Vidal Hazelton (Cincinnati), WR Eugene Clifford (Tennessee St.) (*Separate workout which is not part of local pro day) ALREADY VISITED: QB Ryan Mallett (Arkansas), OC Mike Pouncey (Florida), CB Prince Amukamara (Nebraska), QB Cam Newton (Auburn), DE Nick Fairley (Auburn), QB Blaine Gabbert (Missouri), QB Christian Ponder (Florida State), WR Julio Jones (Alabama), CB Jimmy Smith (Colorado), CB Patrick Peterson (LSU), RB Daniel Thomas (Kansas St.). PLANNED VISITS: QB Andy Dalton (TCU), DE Da’Quan Bowers (Clemson), DT Zach Clayton (Auburn), CB Korey Lindsey (Southern Illinois).

There hasn't been much talk at all about Cordy Glenn except for a quick visit this week.
I think he is big on their radar. Just a hunch but I think they are actually trying to play this one close to the vest.

If there is one clear trend it's that a player visiting means nothing in terms of who we are targeting.

Yeah, there aren't too many CBs on our 2012 list of visits or workouts. And you'd think there would be.

I'm glad they're at least appearing to be taking OG seriously.

1. A bunch of WRs came in. 2. A bunch of QBs came in. I don't think it's a coincidence that we took those 2 positions in the first 2 rounds. It may not tell you too much about the player we are taking, but it may say a lot about the position. |

This team has been drafting BPA lately. There's no players that they "target", they just take it as they go.

I guess they use visits as a tool to better evaluate prospects that they are not quite sure about. I guess they didint need to see AJ Green last year to know he is a once in a decade talent.

Last year's draft, it was painfully obvious that the Bengals were going after QB and WR, with the whole CP situation, and the TOcho show having run it's course.
While it's blatently obvious to most of us that G and CB would be the automatic choices, the team may have a completely different outlook. They have signed two Gs and two CBs, but noone worthy of calling the positions solved. I truly think that they are still looking to draft both G and CB, and that all of these veteran signings are more of an insurance policy. That way they won't be compelled to reach for a position, should the man they really wanted not be there. Having the new veterans takes pressure off of the rookies having to jump in and start from day 1, or in case of injury. (see Andre Smith...)
