Default Chas Henry > Kevin Huber !?

Don't laugh. In a defensive game, field position is crucial and the Florida Gators were lucky to have Chas Henry. This undrafted punter prospect has a booming leg and led the country with a 45.1-yard average as a senior. Henry, the 2010 Ray Guy Award winner as the nation's best punter, lived up to his billing as the best high school punter four years ago enjoying a sensational career with the Gators.
Aside from being a punter, Henry served as a holder for field goals, a place-kicker and a kickoff specialist. He never had a punt blocked at UF in over 100 career attempts. Extremely accurate, roughly 40 percent of his punts went inside the 20, while less than 10 percent resulted in touchbacks. Henry was thrust into kicking duty, going 7-for-11 on field-goal attempts with a long of 47 in 2010.

He was also the punter at the Senior Bowl, where he punted six times averaging nearly 45 yards per punt, and left two of them inside the 20 yard line.
Darrin Simmons understands the value of a skilled punter. Punters aren't going to get picked above sure bets at other skill positions, but Henry proved at the Senior Bowl that he'll make a great punter. Something tells me this team is still going to have a lot of three-and-outs this year.

Yes, I know Kevin Huber is a Cincinnati local kid who excelled at UC. He's also been a slight improvement over Kyle Larson. But he doesn't place-kick in an emergency nor kickoff. He also dropped off just slightly last year, going from 43.2 yards per in '09 to 42.1 last season. That's not too far from Larson's career 41.95 career average. It's certainly not Henry's 45.1 either. I'm not saying that Kevin was the only reason that we went 4-12 last season. Far from it. But at the very least, a little competition wouldn't hurt.

(by the way, I live down here in Daytona Beach "Gator Country" and have been to Gainesville several times so ,yes, I do know a little about the kid. He's a true class act as well.)

Yes, I know Kevin Huber is a Cincinnati local kid who excelled at UC. He's also been a major improvement over Kyle Larson. But he doesn't place-kick in an emergency nor kickoff. He also dropped off just slightly last year, going from 43.2 yards per in '09 to 42.1 last season. Far from shabby considering what we have had, but not Henry's 45.1 either. Huber really hasn't lit it up so far. Bring the guy in for competition. It would be nice to have a punter who can kick off too.

Yea Mc, I just looked up Kyle Larson's career punt average of 41.95 and realized that Huber hasn't really improved on that. I edited my original post appropriately.

Field position is a big part of it and Huber doesn't really seem to angle his punts to pin them. It's either in bounds or going out after 35 yards.

wow, it looks like nobody wants to talk about the punter on here
Might not be the most exciting part of the game, but it's actually a huge part of our team's success

I'll talk about it, I just don't have too much incite to offer. I just remember when Tony Stewart was long snapping the ball 20+ yards over the kicker consistently...(shutters) Glad we have improved on that at least...

yeah...kinda scary how stewart was our best te since tony mcgee and up until last year when we picked up gresh. not much of a snapper though
here's the best highlight reel i could find on chas henry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnB8k...eature=related
not real exciting, and i wish i could find one of him nailing the opponents back at the 5 yd line, but sweet distance and serious hangtime. it's an art, not a contact sport.

Brad St. Louis, not Stewart.

Brad St. Louis was the long snapper. Also, Reggie Kelly or Matt Schobel would be considered the best tight end since Tony McGee. The numbers bare that out.

It's a new year, a new training camp, and I still would love to see this kid get given a chance here.

So none of those 70+ yard punts count in your book?

That post was before last season and they were primarily roll.

He still finished 14th in net average and in inside the 20, so there is some room for improvement.
