Default Pirates trade for Wandy Rodriguez

The Pirates picked up a pretty good pitcher and I'm sure we will be facing him again soon just after beating him Monday.

He has been meh this season and wouldn't really fit in our rotation.
He gives a little to theirs but their offense still stinks and if not for a crazy start to July (they crashed back down since) they would still have a negative differential.

They need a bat and I hope the keep selling the future for it. Their pitching rotation is old. All 30+.

The Pirates top 3 picthers are too good to only have them pitch once every 6 games. (Some are suggesting that's what the Piartes should do.) Of course, none of the bottom 3 are bad enough to just pull from the rotation. Look for the Pirates to trade Bedard or Correia for a bat. I'd perfer they trade Bedard, but he doesn't have the trade value of Corriea. Reports are the Phillies would take Brad Lincoln (young Pirates bull pen pitcher and spot starter, who is looked at as a future starter) for Victorino. That would be a bad deal for the Pirates. Although I'm glad talks between the Pirates and Phillies exist because getting Victorino or Pence would be awesome.

The Pirates have AJ Burnett and Wandy through next season now. I have to imagine the plan is for them to hold he fort until Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon get here. Cole is a lock already, he's the top prospect in the system and gets rave reviews all around the board. He will be here in that time frame. Taillon not as certain, rumors are he could be leverage for a bat, but I hope not, I want to see those 2 young guys being 1 and 2 on the staff for years to come.

Living in Houston and being a semi-Astros fan, what i can say about Wandy is that he has pictched much better than his record and has pitched some gems. i think he'll benefit by being with Pittsburgh's beter offense and being in a different environment. And he has something the Pirates don't have....Post season exerpeince. Sadly, Wandy was the last hold over from the Astros World Series team. Seems so long ago....

Well they do in the form of AJ Burnett. He's pitched in and won the World Series with the Yankees. He was on the Marlins team that won the '03 WS as well but was hurt at the time.

Marte was the leadoff batter in his debut and blasted a HR on the 1st picth he saw. So much for the Pirates needing to trade for a corner OFer with a bat.

Yep! I hope that's a sign of things to come. I would still like a veteran with some consistent HR power.

Assuming Marte will continue to be good, the only postion that needs upgraded so bad that we should trade prospects for would be short stop. Of course even if we traded for a SS who bats .300+ Clint Hurdle would still probably let Clint barmes start. I swear Barmes blackmails Hurdle to never take him out even for a day off. We could still get Pence or someone to play right field and put Jones back at 1st, but considering what we'd have to give up, letting Jones/Presly share OF and McGhee/Jones share 1st base wouldn't be horrible. I'm just glad we didn't get baited to trading Marte away.

Very true! I did not want to lose Marte.

It was a fantastic debut for Marte, but let's at least give the guy a week before we annoint him as the outfield savior yet. I'm very optimistic about how great he can be in LF for the Bucs goin forward, but its still just one game, I want to see consistency.

He has more pure talent than Presly and already did more than Tabata has done all year. He might not be a "savior", but he's not a utuility infielder by trade so he's an upgrade.

I agree with everything you said. I just don't want to think the Left field position is fixed after 1 game. The HR was nice, but Marte is more scouted as a quality speed guy and fantastic fielder, I really hope that all holds true.

Well, Marte is starting to look like a Bucco. Just watched a third strike like it seems all Pirates are good at.

Bad game overall tonight, but at least he delivered with that sac fly in the 9th.

Bad game and we still win? Astros or not, that means the Pirates of 5 years ago are no more.

I meant for Marte who was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts prior to his huge sac fly, not the Pirates in general. Great night for Mike Mckenry though.

Yep!!! Of course I would rather Marte would have had hits earlier in the game, but you're right, he came through with the sac fly when it counted.

I love hearing the Pirates referred to, even if it is by our own commentators, as "The Battlin Buccos." They are doing a great job of coming back to win games.

I know it is still a little early yet, but for me there is definitely a different feel to this year. Watching the games on TV, there just seems to be an excitement and enthusiasm from the players and fans that we have not seen in over 20 years. I'm loving it!

Garret Jones tried catching a fly ball and fell flat on his face. F***! Lets trade for Hunter Pence!

It looks like the Pirates will miss Cueto but it looks like a Latos vs.Rodriguez matchup Friday , but I wouldn't be surprised if Dusty retools the staff so Cueto faces the Pirates on Fri.

I'd be for it. And let's see what, if anything we could get for Presley.

I really wonder if the Pirates have more looking third strikes than any other team. It may just be because I watch the Buccos and not another team, but I am really tired of them watching the third strike.
