If your an umpire who gives a warning before the game, how the Hell can you call a picth 3-4 inches inside the zone a strike? You warn against inside picthes and then extend the strike zone to the batters chest. This whole crew is crap.

EDIT: I tried to resist bringing it up, but why do Reds fans whine and jeer at the umpire every time he calls a ball on one of their pitchers? Seriously, a low pitch a foot outside and they boo. It gets annoying after 3 games.

Old piece of shet is at it again. Side angle shows tag is dang near 12 inches from touching Marte. Grandpa makes up his own calls again.

Do you have any depth perception whatsoever?

You're saying that 1-2 inches is the equivalent of 12 inches? From the angle the ump was at, it looked like the throw was right on and he tagged, from the side you could see that Frazier just missed the tag by a couple of inches.

FYI, 5 inches off the plate usually means the catcher needs to hop to block it and 12 inches wide of the tag means that the arm will be fully extended and the guy not near the runner's base path.

This whining and complaining is getting old quick. No intention meant by either throw and accidental hits are not retaliated upon. That's why nobody hit anybody else. I swear, fans from Pittsburgh really love to ***** and complain.

The fact of the matter is that the Pirates should have swept the Reds. You miss out on our bonafide best starting pitcher in Cueto. Our 2 best everyday hitters and gold glovers missed the entire series in Votto & Phillips. That means that from our 4 best players, 3 were not even playing this series.

And you all were relatively healthy and sent out your 2 best pitchers as well as a rookie that has the best stats on your team against the Redlegs.

And you end up losing 2 out of 3 with equally ****ty umpiring on both sides.

Just be happy that the Pirates are actually in playoff contention in August. It'll be over before you know it.

Come to the smack talk section come football season, youll see 6th in all his glory. Its usually moaning about the officiating or how the league has it in for the steelers.

It was more than just 1-2 inches from the angle ROOT sports showed. At 1st I said a solid hand length, butupon replay it looked even worse so I changed it to almost a foot. Isn't part of an ump's job to make sure he's in position to see the tag?

I never said the ump was biased, just that he is very, very bad at his job.

Everything else you said isn't really relevant.Pirates should have swept the Reds at home? C'mon really? It's one loss, don't be so upset.

Yes it was all Steeler fans whining about the refs during their 12 wins and bengals sweep.

It was a fun 3 days. See you all next week.

I'm not upset in the least. The Reds took 2/3 against a desperate team, put an extra game in between themselves and the Pirates and did it without 3 of their 4 best players.

the Reds and Pirates are 6-6 this season head to head and every series has been won 2/3 games both home and away by both teams now, this looks like a true rivalry again with how even these teams have been all season and both being among the best teams this year too

I'm with u, I watched the replay multiple times on ROOT and on mlb network. It was a lot more than 1-2 inches. It was dang near a solid foot like you said. He didn't come close. I hate blown tag safe calls more than most other plays. The ump should only be calling the guy out if he actually saw the tag. There's no other reason to call him out there other than he assumed there was a tag. NEVER assume, consult the other umps if you couldn't see it, its completely permissible. Jerry Meals, the infamous 19 inning ump from the Pirates-Braves game last year, did it this season and had his call overturned! Why are MLB umps usually so against this? NFL refs consult each other all the time, why is it so hard for MLB umps to do it?

*Fixed error for 19 inning game.

I was happy with 2 out of 3..Did anybody think that the pictures hit the batters on purpose..I thought there were too many batters hit by Reds pictures..It did look like it was intentional..I was glad the Pirates did not retaliate though..

Intent?

None of them looked intentional at all.

Starting tonight, the Reds embark on a stretch of 18 consecutive games against teams who are below .500. What are everyone's thoughts as to what their record will be in those games?

I'll say they go 13-5.

I wouldn't call it kool-aid sipping. 14-4 was my original thought as well. I decided to go with the 5 losses because they play 5 series over those 18 games. I figure one loss per series is acceptable

All the pictures were taken on purpose. Showed the batters in their swing. SLR cameras are great for those types of pictures and their photographers are pros!
