QB controversy, or just going with a cheaper backup?
When is this kind of comment going to stop? Any good 2nd string QB wants to be 1st string. No team can afford to pay a 2nd stringer much more than Grad makes, unless it's a Palmer case - where a projected superstar of the future is spending a year learning behind a vet like Kitna.

No sense spending money on something like a backup QB till you have to have one. Then we could trade away a 1st and two 2nd round draft pics for one...

Got worse after Shipley got hurt.

Man, when i saw the title of this thread I got all excited thinking it was about Joe Flacco.

Sadly, it's about Bruce.

Firstly, 6.6 YPA isn't that bad for a rookie QB running an offense with poor interior linemen, no support from the run game, and very little receiver depth. Secondly, Gradkowski is the worst backup QB in the league, bar none. Just watch if we have him and Dalton goes down for an extended period.

I would MUCH rather have a guy the caliber of a Matt Moore, who is a borderline starter in this league. He can come in and actually win you a game or two, whereas if we were stuck with Gradkowski, we would have to get exceptionally lucky to pull off a W. If Moore gets cut, I really really hope we go and get him, even if it is just for a year. We have a team that can compete for a title this year, IMO. It would be a pity to see it all go to **** if we have to start Gradkowski for 6 games and lose at least 5 of them.

Sadly, it's about Bruce.
He is the leagues best QB....evar....
Besides, what he is asking for a salary, the organization could ultimately buy the Browns...

Interesting to think about. The constant bickering about our roster has actually been over back ups(Grad, Shipley, Burfict) rather than our starters. I would say that is a good thing.

I still think it was a mistake not to bring in someone like a Vince Young to compete for the backup QB spot. I know folks see Vince's name brought up and go Are you nuts!! But VY has better career numbers than Gradk in rating and comp %.

This... Who knows if he was told to go out and hit the RBs or not.

that being said if moore gets cut from maimi he could be a decent backup.

I'm sure its nothing to worry about.

Chris Lewis-Harris, S Tony Dye (playing Corner), S Jeromy Miles (playing Corner) and the WR they just converted to a CB probably shut down the field on Grad.

Who could complete a pass against those guys?

What did I say that was so ridiculous? Jon Kitna was a backup before, during, and after his time here. The Cowboys signed him to back up Romo and in 2010 when Romo went down Kitna came in and played very well. That is what happens when you invest in a backup QB, sure the season was sunk all the same, but Kitna went above and beyond as a backup.

Look at Caleb Hanie taking over for an injured Jay Cutler....oy! Nothing like a 5-game losing streak to knock yourself out of playoff contention to make you question your selection of a backup QB.

The quarterback situation is indeed interesting. Today at training camp all four quartebacks got in lots of throwing time and, just being real here, Andy Dalton is a beast. I never want to hear another knock on his supposed lack of arm strength because he can put some heat on a football.

Now, as for Bruce Gradkowski, he's just kind of okay. Having a backup quarterback with starting experience is very nice, I'll admit, but I have to be honest. Tyler Hansen and Zac Robinson both throw a better ball than Bruce. It's true.
