Default Dontay Moch's Speed

Oh my! I had heard Dontay Moch is fast but what I saw at training camp blew my mind. Darrin Simmons, the special teams coach, was having Kevin Huber punt the ball while he worked the coverage with the punt team. Darrin was not happy because he thought the punt team was not getting down the field fast enough once Kevin's punt was in the air and he kept rotating players in and out until he found the fastest ten. When Dontay Moch took his turn, I could barely believe what I saw: Now Kevin Huber can put some serious hang time on a punted football, but Dontay Moch beat the football to the punt returner! As soon at the ball left Huber's foot, Moch took off and he was in Brandon Tate's grill before Tate could even signal for a fair catch. Oh that was just sick!

I hope this suspension doesn't delay his progress too much. I can't wait to see him on the field.

Trivia time:

Do you know why a sub 4.5 40 time is considered a benchmark in speed and who made it the benchmarkt?

I recall Bo Jackson had an almost unbelievable 40 time. Something like 4.25.

That's why I was so excited when they drafted him. Unbelievable speed for a guy that size. An he has acceleration too. I was surprised nobody pegged him for a rush LB in a 3-4 and picked him much earlier.

Paul brown because he was looking for punt gunners to outrun the punt

As an OLB, I'd say quickness is probably more important than speed for pass rushing. Once he beats his man he will be at the QB fast though.

Intriguing prospect.

Speed on special teams from LB's is awesome to have.

Yes!! Paul Brown determined an average punt traveled in the air about 40 yards and hung for about 4.5 seconds. He wanted folks that could beat the ball to the player

Bonus trivia:

Why was the practice squad orginally known as the taxi squad?

Great to hear ! I really hope Moch can get it together and become the player we've all been hoping for. We could have just a Doomsday Defense if all of our prospects can live up to their ability !

Moch, Burfict, Mays, Atkins, Dunlap, Peko, MJ all coming on a jailbreak blitz could put the fear of god in opposing QB's.

Actually, I saw Mike Zimmer run this exact blitz today at camp and poor Bruce Gradkowski......

Because they actually werent with the team. In the event they were activated, they were just a cab ride away.

Because the player worked for the taxi company until Brown called them up to the team.

Yep. Paul Brown had the local taxi company employee the fringe players to keep them local. Trivia time over.

Paul Brown got players jobs as taxi drivers so they would stick around in case he needed them. It was the beginning of the practice squad.

I heard Moch has had to shell out a lot of money... for all the windows he broke with his sonic boom.

Great news, as at least Moch can have value as a gunner, and it's something he can still excel at even if he misses those 4 weeks.

Now Huber needs to work on his end to help out the return team...

Oh yeah! Just imagine if they all lived up to their potential! It is a scary(in a good way) thought!

Bum ankle and Sholder gets to meet moch and mays this year...

I was really excited watching him a DE run down a WR in college from behind.
