Remember Dez Briscoe? Didn't turn out to be as much of a loss as many predicted.

This year, it seems the receiving corps and perhaps linebackers are talent rich. Who doesn't make it to the squad?
It looks like they had better keep everyone the way these guys are dropping like flies. I've lost count of the number of knee injuries already. The injury bug could be the big threat to this year's team.

Kasif Moore, DeQuin Evans, Micah Johnson, etc.

I saw a couple people mention Shipley and Whalen. Don't take this as 100% fact, but I believe that you aren't eligible for the PS if you were on the 53 man roster for at least 10 games the previous season, or if you've been in the league for longer than 3 years.

What about our D. Tackles? Sims isn't eligible. Doesn't Still seem to be outperforming Brandon Thompson so far?
As far as the DTs go Still and Thompson are locks for the 53. You don't cut 2nd or 3rd rounders before their rookie year. Still is going to have a huge year for a player that will probably average 20 plays a game. Thompson is going to be a solid backup for Peko and with all of the hybrid players we have in the front 7 I think we end up carry all 5 of our DTs. Peko, Atkins, Still, Simms, Thompson.

But as too the OP, I think Muckelroy is going to be released come game 4 when Moch is activated. Moch has too much upside to let slide and VB is the future of our LBing core (as crazy as that sounds from where he was 5 months ago). We will cut at least 2 LBs that will end up on someone's 53 man roster.

That's another bad thing about the Dunlap & Geathers injuries, our backups will get a lot of plays on tape in earlier quarters, that normally wouldn't have happened. So I think for sure guys like Johnson and Evans might not make it to the squad.

From there the other concerns are Saefty, WR, and TE. If Lee makes the final 53, then Cochart might be up

I'm gonna say nobody.

I've seen it before. Folks saying our cast offs will be coveted by other teams; but look at what we are talking about:

I agree. Sands was very solid in run defense and tackled well. Didn't get to see him in coverage though, thanks to Tebow's wet noodle of an arm.

BINGO!!

That is why I'm all for trying to trade Whalen to the Colts for a 6 or 7th rounder. The year doesn't matter just trade him.

Of all the teams that want anything from cut down day the Colts are one of the few that don't have to trade. They are the first team to pick whatever they want off the waiver wire.

I confess that I don't know how an IR year counts toward PS eligibility. You're probably right. I'm not even sure if the new CBA changed the Squad eligibility rules.

Time for some digging...

I think at worst, he is average. We are not so good that we should be cutting average players.

This.
Geathers has been disappointing since his breakout 10 sack season.
He has, however, been one of the better run defense DE in the league and also a DE who can generate his own pass rush despite not closing the deal with a sack often. (Unlike a certain other DE)

He is probably our 2nd best DE right now, or at least tied for 2nd.
1. Dunlap
2. Geathers/Johnson

I think being on the active roster for 1 full season (active game day) means you are no longer eligiable for PS.

Order of likeliness for being picked up by another team:

WR

1. AJ
2. Mo Sanu
3. Brandon Tate
4. Shipley
5. M Jones

I think these guys are safe from being swiped

6. Andrew Hawkins
7. Ryan Whalen
8. A Binns

RB

1. BJGE
2. Brian Leonard
3. Bernard Scott
4. Aaron Brown

These guys are safe

5. Cedric Peerman
6. Dan Herron

Of course, this doesn't tell us which players can do the most for us, just which players will still be available if we waive them due to roster constraints.

Why would the Colts trade for Whalen?

They get the first choice of any player on any PS.

They only trade for him if they have someone else in mind to pick up first off someone's PS.

That is the reason Washington got the WR we wanted, they were worse than us last year.

A. Binns is not going to the PS or any place else, as he is our best choice for a #2 till Marvin Jones develops.

I hate to say it, and know some will flame me for it. I think Shipley is gone, because there is too much talent and depth at WR to keep him.

Wow! Our most dependable clutch WR three years ago may not even make the team this year. That is a much improved WR corps.

I agree 100%. Like I said. That list isn't about talent, it is about who would not get taken by another team.

We could keep 7 I suppose depending on the O-Line and if we only carry 3 RBs.

Colts won't trade for Whalen. They would rather wait for him to get cut than trade for him. Let's be honest, the market isn't booming for Whalen. The Colts would be the only team to go for Whalen.
