Ok, here is one of the posts i was talks about....

Ridiculous" is an excellent word to describe the numbers Chapman is piling up this year.

• Start with this one: 106 strikeouts, 25 hits. Unless something bizarre happens, this man's numbers project out to make him the first relief pitcher in history with 110 more strikeouts than hits. Crazy.

• Then there's this: This fellow is averaging nearly 17 strikeouts per nine innings (16.74, to be exact). How many other pitchers in history have done that? None, of course.

• OK, next up: The batting average of the 216 hitters who have had the misfortune to step into the box against Chapman this year is an insane .127. Want to guess how many pitchers in the live-ball era have proved to be that unhittable in any season of 50 innings or more? Not a one. (The record is .133 against Eric Gagne in his ultra-dominating Cy Young season in 2003.)

• Meanwhile, talk about dominating his league: Chapman's ERA against the NL this year -- in 47 trips to the mound -- is (ready for this?) 0.17. That's 51 2/3 innings, one earned run. NL hitters have batted .099 against him (17-for-172). He has faced 190 hitters in his own league. Just 34 have reached base.

• Then there are all the strikeouts. Do you realize this guy is piling up more than four strikeouts for every hit he allows (4.24, to be precise)? Once again, nobody has ever done that in a year in which he pitched this many innings. Only Gagne in 2003 (3.7) and Billy Wagner in 1999 (3.5) have even approached it.

• Bet you didn't know that Chapman has more strikeouts than the Opening Day starters for 11 teams … or that he has struck out more hitters than two pitchers who made the All-Star team (Matt Harrison, Wade Miley), as well as Vogelsong … or that he would lead four teams in strikeouts (A's, Royals, Blue Jays, Rockies).

• Ah, here's the clincher: I hear lots of people refer to Jered Weaver as the favorite for the American League Cy Young Award. But guess what? Chapman has racked up exactly as many strikeouts this season as Weaver has -- in 81 fewer innings.

Again...We got a top notch pitcher who will be INCREDIBLY useful in post-season play for 4 guys who likely are still tearing up AA/AAA with the possible exception of Alonso who is warming the bench except for this recent stretch with Votto's injury.
I was a Latos basher but Ive come around. My latos hate was at its highest during the 1st game against the indians this year in cleveland. I took my son to see his first game and Latos was going against lowe. Lowe was god awful and the reds were beating him up but latos allowed that AAA roster to beat him up even worse. I was done with Latos after that. Fortunately he turned it around shortly after.

As far as Chapman...If he gets his ERA under 1.0 he may be a Cy Young candidate.

BTW, this is to post about the going-ons of the Reds. Just because it's in the mainstream doesn't mean everyone has seen it. We post to see everyone's opinions and maybe find a new nugget or two.

Obviously the Reds won on a walk-off homerun...But that didn't and shouldn't stop people from voicing their enthusiasm towards the 4th straight Reds victory. Another non-"newsflash."
Hell, when the reds had 10 straight wins, ESPN barely mentioned it. They were too excited to talk about another upcoming yankees v red sox game that was meaningless.

It will be Todd Redmond. He'll start the night game.

Someone posted the content of Jayson Stark's case for Chapman to win the Cy Young award this year but they left out the most impressive stat IMO.

Want to talk domination? This guy has thrown 964 pitches this year. Only 9.9 percent of them (95) have been put in play. You have got to be kidding.

Now, I don't have any idea what the league average for % of pitches put in play is, but I'd have to guess that it's somewhere around 35 or 36%. Maybe higher. I'd like to see the number of swings and misses against Chapman as well. I imagine that number is somewhere close to 55%.

I knew Latos would come around. We have to remember that he is 24 years young and was traded here with high expectations because of all we gave up for him. That is a lot of pressure.

If you haven't seen this it pretty much explains Chapman's dominance:

I love all of the Sports Science things especially this one. The one part that they don't mention is the fact that Chapman has freakishly long fingers. They wrap around the ball so far that it creates a whip like action upon release. For a ball to travel that fast and not stay on a straight line is amazing.

I thought so too. I liked how there were whole episodes compared to just a 3 or 4 minute segment.

Who gets the call Saturday?
The Reds streak of using the same 5 starting pitchers will end on Saturday when they play a double header vs the Cubs. A new rule in the CBA allows teams to call-up a 26th player for double headers scheduled at least two days after the original game was rained out. I would think that Todd Redmond gets the call. He is due to pitch Friday for Louisville.

Whoa der...Slow down a bit.

Just a 6 game lead with like 40 games to go. I know we have a very comfortable lead, but nothing is set in stone.

And if you do believe it is, you did not watch baseball last year (*ahem* Red Sox & Braves)

Ooooh, I was gonna make mention of this but passed. This would have put a real strain on our starters as it would have pushed ALL of them up a day in rest (from 4 days of rest to 3) over the course of the next week.

If I would have to guess I would say Todd Redmond or Ramon Ramirez would be the guy they call up. Now the real question I pose to you is: Who do they send down?

They do not have to send anyone down. That was part of a new rule passed this season. If a team has to play a DH to make up a rainout, that team can add a 26th player to the big league roster for that one game.

Nice one, I'm glad you put that up. All I could think was "you can't do nothin' about that can ya" lol, I wonder if that's what Chapman thinks to himself after making these batters look silly. Love the missle, love this Reds team, just awesome.
