Before somebody gives a reply that back-up QBs aren't important, How important was 3rd string QB Yates to Houston last season in their season and play-off games. You remember Yates.
Preseason I look at our back-up QBs alot. In past preseasons I was not very impressed with Jordan Palmer and others backing up Carson. They never moved the team when in the preseason games. ......Last night I liked what Gradkowski and Robinson did...... We know of Gradkowski. He beat our Bengals in 2009 when we swept AFC North. In Oakland, Gradkowski was tough in the clutch beating us. He was tough in the clutch last year beating Browns in season opener. He fits in well with the Gruden system. Gradkowski made some nice passes last night and connected on some long ones, moved the team.....Robinson made nice passes and connected on some long ones and moved the team. ....They look like nice back-ups to Dalton. I'm old school when teams carried 3 Qbs. 3 Qbs sure helped Houston last year. If the franchise QB gets dinged up and has to leave the game, it's nice to know you aren't down to one QB in uniform. Houston was not the first team I've seen down to their 3rd string QB, unfortunatly it happens. Otherwise, Robinson looks like he should at least be on reserve team in case of an injury. Anyway, Dalton looked good......but both back-ups looked good as well. Thats a good thing. You need good back-ups. It's the NFL, injuries happen. Some years Carson took every snap, some years he got injured........2 TD Peerman was my star of preseason game 1, but in preseason game 2 , I really liked our back-up QBs compared to years our back-ups couldn't move the team. I'm very happy our back-up Qbs played well. I consider them very important to the team, one injury away from starting in key games. ( Skuta continues to look good on defense and special teams. The new WRs are looking good. ). Glad Bengals won the game. I know the final score in preseason doesn't mean much, but I'ld rather win than lose. 2-0, they must be doing something right. Plus Jets and Falcons are good teams, with Packers coming up.

I thought the exact same thing. And for all it's worth, I agree with your post.

I like Robinson but seniority will win the back up job.

Gradkowski is # 2 because he has NFL experience, and I like his wins over us and Browns in regular season games. Means he can go in if needed.....but Robinson looks like a good # 3 as well......Compared to Jordan Palmers and other past preseason QBs, these 2012 guys look like very good QB depth...If nothing else, we need a #3 on the reserve team at least.

This is the first preseason in a long time that we've seen decent play from our backup qb's. It's good to see. It'll be nice to develop Robinson to and eventually move on from Grad. We'll only keep 2 again I'm sure so soon we need to go with youth.

Grads two best plays was when he took off running and when he noticed Sanu wide open in the endzone and just chucked it up to him.
Other than that most of his passes were dump offs right back to the line of scrimmage. I really did like how Robinson played though, and I hope he wins the #2 job, but I have a feeling Grad stays.

I think this year is a great year to get away from the vet is more valuable then the young guy with upside. We are going to have some growing pains with Boling and Zeitler.Last year we proved the young guys can get the job done.It might open the door for some younger guys to stick on the team.I hope to see Zac on the 53 hate to see him grabed while trying to send him back to PS.

He did not even attempt to look downfield Hobson says on 4 plays. On a first and 15 he threw it right away before any pressure to the outlet without looking downfield at all.I know we have short passes like this but Zac had much better field vision then Grad had.

I don't want to sacrifice a roster spot with a #3 QB, but I don't see it as too much of an option this year. I don't think we could sneak Zac onto the PS for long.
On the other hand, we have such tough decisions to make at WR, LB, BC & Safety. Something's got to give.

3 QBs is such a terrible idea. Not only are neither Bruce nor Robinson close to Yates, but they are also generally terrible. Plus, that's one situation compared to every other one where a 3rd QB means you're done no matter what. It's a waste of a roster spot"

One thing I liked was how, when Gradkowski was in on one play, the pass rush came from both sides and Grad stepped up and ran for 31 yards. His arm didn't look bad, either.
Robinson also looked mobile, with 2 carries for 18 yards, but, at camp the other day, I was impressed with his arm. I'm confident with our backup quarterback situation, but let's hope we never need them.
