i disagree. If this was true then Peyton Manning would have never become great. Who's pushing Brady? Who was pushing Michael Jordan for his spot each and every year. I agree that there should be competition for spots, but professionals should be able to motivate themselves. I believe Whitworth has worked hard to become an elite left tackle and should be praised. I believe Dalton is someone that will work his tail off whether someone is "pushing" him or not. Some guys have it and some don't.

I feel you should bring in guys for positions that you feel need upgraded. To bring in someone to push someone playing at an all pro level just to "push them" would be wasting a spot on the roster. Bring in someone to push our running backs maybe, but not our LT who has been solid for years.

And as far as the original quesion, Whitworth is the least of my worries. Boling has me worried and if any other OL goes down I will be VERY worried. Also, God help us if Dalton or AJ goes down.

Overall, I am thrilled with this team right now. The future is very bright!

For an offensive linemen Whit's arms look pretty pathetic. He looks like he hasnt done a bicep curl or tricep extension in his life.

He has the smallest arms and legs of any 330 pound lineman I've ever seen.

That just means he's big and solid in the core and chest, and THAT'S where his strength comes from, I'm sure.

I'm betting the o-line works on fundamentals a lot this week, more so in the running game than the passing game though.
Whitworth in not a powerful guy you can tell by his frame he is not a weight room type guy.So if he used the extra weight in years past to help him anchor on bull rushes or use it get push in the running game then the weight loss could effect him greatly.

Still only two tackles, from one of the best pass rushers in the game.

That is good for anyone.

Again, how many did he get against Whitworth?
Not saying Whit had a good game or bad game. You said he did not give up a tackle which I knew was wrong so I pointed it out.

If boling tackles alloud in the Falcons game was matched against Whits, snaps taken into consideration I am pretty sure you would find Whit gave up more tackles.Whit is team leader and God to most around here.Boling is 2nd year player with 3 starts last year.

Most teams would give their LT help blocking Abraham. We didnt.

There is usually some type of game planning involved to help counter the opposing teams best defensive player. But its preseason and there is no game planning.

Its preseason... even for veterans. And if one of your tackles is getting abused as bad as people around here are saying Whit was then the QB would be taking some serious hits. Did I miss Andy taking some serious hits?

I think it has been stated that he did not give up any sacks. He gave up 3 tackles in the run game. Why are you asking about a QB being pressured?Try to keep up next time ok.

Abraham is a beast, Whit hung in there alright, it's early, he'll be fine, I'm not worried about him at all.

Nope, Whit's proven and steady, nothing to worry about. He'll play to the level we expect and hopefully, no longer dinged, the run blocking will improve.

Maybe Whitworth and the line would be better run blockers if they were in better physical condition.

Andre Smith is a fat lard and we complain like little school girls
Andrew Whitworth looses a little weight and we complain like little school girls

XD

Im sure the reasoning Whits lost a little weight is its something the coaches have addressed and if not, and its a concern im sure the coaches would address it and I have a gut feeling with the personality of whit, if it was addressed he would fix it.

If your biggest concern on the o-line is Whitworth's play, then they are in great shape.

Certainly no need to worry, since the facts are, not only didn't Whit look like a high-schooler, he played pretty well.

Certainly no need to worry since the facts are, Abraham didn't "blow up our running game".

You are over-reacting on this one. It is not every game he will face someone like that and he will be fine.

After Thursdays game this week everyone will be withdrawing their arguments.

Lets hope so but looking at our schedule this year, if Whit has many half's like he did against ATL we will be in serious trouble this year.

People can say they watched it back and blah blah blah, Abraham made Whit look horrible. They aren't the only ones that went back and watched it.

Here are some more opponents that Whit will face this year:

Baltimore- Courtney Upshaw
Cleveland- J. Sheard
Washington- Brian Orakpo
Jacksonville- Jeremy Mincey
Miami Dolphins- Cameron Wake
Cleveland- J. Sheard
Pittsburgh- James Harrison
Denver- Von Miller
Giants- Take your pick, Osi, Tuck, JPP
Kansas City- Tamba Hali
Oakland- Matt Shaugnessy
Chargers- Melvin Ingram
Dallas- Demarcus Ware
Philly- Trent Cole
Pitt- James Harrison
Baltimore- Terrell Suggs

So looking at Whits opponents the rest of the season...............lets just hope it was a fluke what John Abraham did to him.
