The problem with Frazier is: Who do you start him over?

Definitely not Votto or Phillips except for days off (which may be more frequent than you might think as the season winds down).

Rolen wouldn't make as much sense considering how great Rolen's glove is and the fact that Rolen is actually hitting better (or about equal) than Frazier lately:

Rolen since July is batting .339 & .414 OBP with 13 XBH (3 HR) & 17 RBI vs. 20K
Frazier since July is batting .320 & .370 OBP with 22 XBH (11 HR) & 38 RBI vs. 38K

The only other option would be Ludwick...But his stats since July include averaging .331 & .371 OBP with 25 XBH (14 HR) & 38 RBI vs. 34K.

So...Again, where do you play Frazier everyday?

He'll get 2 starts from Rolen each week due to usual days off. He'll probably also spell Bruce, Ludwick, Votto & BP sporadically.

I still would be shocked to not see him in the lineup less than half the week (i.e., 3 or 4 games per week instead of his current 6.)

But the main issue with him is that he can't play CF or SS where we have two guys who are automatic outs at the moment. ANd yet they continue to lead off our lineup and get the most ABs with neither protecting the other.

I hate the fact that Frazier won't be seeing as much playing time. He has earned it. But you are pretty spot on man. I absolutely love Frazier. However, at the same time, I am glad we are even having this kind of debate. It is great to be a Reds fan these days.

Baker said frazier wont play SS 2B or RF. He said he doesnt want him playing too many positions where he could become a liability defensively. so when phillips or cozart sit we will still see valdez and cairo. I think its extremely important to get the 1 seed so they wont have to play the first 2 games out in California. plus with the wild card team your playing a worn out team that has already pitched their ace. I think Reds have most talent in baseball but anything can happen in a 5 game series.

Frazier surely can play SS, it's just that Baker likely won't use him there. Todd came up as a SS.

The good news is, if you look all around baseball, the Reds are clearly in the best position. If you're gonna have a problem, wouldn't you rather have that problem be, "What am I going to do with all these bats?"

Why is everyone so paranoid about what Dusty will do with the lineup once Votto gets back? With all the lineups Dusty has used this year, all he's been able to do is get us to 27 games over .500 with the best record in the game.

In Dusty I Trusty.

While Rolen's glove is much better, and Rolen has been hitting better the last month, there production isn't even close.

In a playoff game, you almost have to start Frazier at 3rd. We are better with him in the lineup then we are with Rolen.

Agreed. The 1 seed is very important! I'm sorry but Frazier should be playing a majority at 3B with Rolen spelling him once or twice a week and on those days he can play LF or 1B. The guy has been the team's best offensive player over the last month.

I agree. Rolen is an invaluable bat off the bench.

So, if Frazier is playing 4 or 5 games a week at 3rd, when Rolen gets the chance to spell him, you want him to go play someplace else and not get a break? That is a formula destined to kill the guy.

I think Frazier has earned the starting 3B job. When Rolen gets a couple starts, you let Todd rest. Gotta keep these guys as fresh as possible the last month of the regular season.

I'm not saying never give him a day off but Ludwick and Votto's knee can use a day off more than a 26 year old...

I agree with that.

Personally, I feel confident with any starting lineup (as long as Cairo isn't in it) Dusty puts on the field. As Reds fans, we have no reason to believe that any lineup will fail.

Did anyone else notice that Joey Votto, after missing 41 straight games, is still tied for the second most doubles in all of Major League Baseball? That is maybe the most impressive stat I have ever heard.

the players may not need as much rest over the next month as we think, looking at the schedule the Reds have 5 off days between now and September 24th

I dont know how much that'll factor into rotations among players but more importantly for the race for home field advantage in the playoffs, Washington only has 2 off days the rest of the season

well for a 4 run game and no Chapman pitching today, the ending wasnt as dramatic without the 3 digits on the radar gun in the 9th, not to mention no Brennaman or Grande on tv as well
