Just perusing the depth chart on the Bengals main page and noticed a few "oddities".
1) Marvin Jones is listed as the last WR? He certainly showed up in preseason. 2) 4 TE's (as the Quinn thread has very much in depth questioned)? 3) Tate still sitting at our #2 WR? Sanu is 2nd to last too. Another bust for our 2nd round??? 4) Mays and Nelson as the starting safeties (I don't have much disagreement, but it's interesting given the drool over Iloka at the beginning of training camp) 5) Any other strangeness? Other than Gradkowski actually STILL our #2 QB? http://www.bengals.com/team/depth-chart.html |

2. Need a run blocking TE to free up Gresh. Cook's spot. 3. He was a 3rd round pick and its clear the staff is dead set on Tate/Binns starting. 4. What is your point? People were excited about him but I dont think anyone said he would be starting by Week 1. 5. Name the guy who should be here instead. Go!

From what I saw in preseason I would put Binns in as the #2 instead of Tate.
Iloka should come as no surprise. Nelson is going to start as long as he is healthy. |

I think the future is Jones and Sanu. They showed it. We are spoiled by AJ and Andy. We want immediate results now.

Doesn't change that Jones and Sanu have taken all of 0 (zero, zilch, nadda) true NFL snaps. Besides - didn't the coaches say it was more of a wide-out-by-committee?

It was more of a follow up to what you were responding to. People are calling Sanu a bust because he's not starting - it's ludicrous. He can't be a bust if he doesn't start his rookie year. He's a bust if he's not a starter by his 3rd year.

Maybe they haven't but besides green who has? Hawk a few and Whalen a few....it should be wide open and I don't think I'm alone when I say Tate hawk and Whalen did nothing to solidify the #2 role and that binns jones and sanu should be behind green in an order.

I'm all for production no matter who it comes from but I don't think any of them from last yr deserves anything more than the up comers based on performance alone.

Agree, experience counts. Actually, I'm glad that the Bengals don't have to throw Sanu and Jones out there in starting roles from day 1.

Surprised and upset that Charles is behind Lee because two tight end sets with Gresh and Charles get me excited.
We found something great with this kid and he was the best TE in this class but his off-the-field stuff dropped him.

Re: Depth Chart
He is behind Lee because TEs have to block in this scheme. Like Tony Gonzalez said......if yiu cannot block then you are not a TE.

Are you comparing Marvin Jones or Mohammad Sanu to AJ Green? Because if you are, any credibility you may have had (which is next to none already) is gone.
AJ Green is an aberration - fact. Neither of our rookie wide outs are anywhere near Green's caliber.

2. He was not the best TE either. Fleener and Allen were both better

1) Marvin Jones is listed as the last WR? He certainly showed up in preseason.
His time will come with practice and learning more. He looked good and bad. Dropped some catchable balls that hit him in the hands. The coaches know better about his overall play than we would have noticed in the preseason. 2) 4 TE's (as the Quinn thread has very much in depth questioned)? A fill in for now. 3) Tate still sitting at our #2 WR? Sanu is 2nd to last too. Another bust for our 2nd round??? Jumping the gun a little? He was a 3rd round pick. Like Jones he has to learn and practice to work his way in. 4) Mays and Nelson as the starting safeties (I don't have much disagreement, but it's interesting given the drool over Iloka at the beginning of training camp) I'd have been shocked if Iloka cracked the starting line up. He's good depth, needs to learn more and could crack the starting line up in a year or two. Were you expecting him to be a first year starter? 5) Any other strangeness? Other than Gradkowski actually STILL our #2 QB? Not strange. If the Bengals intended on replacing Gradkowski they would have drafted a QB, traded for one or signed one in FA. Gradkowski at least knows the offense. |
