Again, look at that.
Double coverage. Almost picked. It wasn't even hidden coverage or anything. Fort was just standing there. Vick made this defense look like gods, but at the end of the day, the Browns will not contest for anything real unless Weeden and Richardson improve. and FAST.

He's going to have a short career anyway. His GM just locked himself and his coach at the hip with a 28 year old Rookie QB who looks horrible. If they have a disaster of a season (4 wins or less is my guess?) they completely clean house. Holmgren is a terrible terrible coach, GM, evaluator and team builder. I believe the game passed him by when he retired from the Packers and returned to the Seahawks. With 2 different teams he has spent over a decade trying to do the same thing; Draft a decent receiver. He has failed miserably for over 10 years. Why does everything that goes to Cleveland turn to garbage or stupid? I'm not trying to diss them, I'm really not, but how do you draft your future QB in the second round, then go ahead and take another QB in the first round so soon after? Colt McCoy never had a chance.

Good lord Weeden is bad XD.
I've never seen a rookie look so bad. He throws everything too high. Way too high. Not even Carson Palmer too high. But absurdly too high.

Holmgren has said that he thinks drafting a WR early is "a waste". It's why they passed on Jones, which looks like that will cost them for years.
Weeden finished the game with a rating of 5.1. Ouch. Last edited by blt4584; 09-09-2012 at 04:43 PM. |

Exactly.
I think the Browns should just go back to Colt. At least he was accurate with the ball, even if he was only capable of throwing it 15 yards. It was a huge mistake to draft Weeden.

Did I say anything about number of times he should throw? No even if he threw it 15 times half of them would be incomplete. Did you not see where they said he had a 54.7 rating when under pressure?

Weeden was just a panic pick. Their guy was taken and Holmgren just decided to go with Weeden. Now he's just trying to make it the full season before Haslam fires him.

i think colt should start untill weeden gets use to the pro game..if there offense could manage the ball and keep from turning it over they could be a decent team

Unless Weeden has suffered (or will during practice week) an injury that actually prevents him from playing, there's positively Zero chance of McCoy starting for the Browns.
They just drafted a 1st round QB, who is in his prime years (26-35ish) They make that pick with the intention of him starting from day one and learning for a year. If they go back to Colt McCoy, the year is absolutely wasted, they're not ready to win regardless of who's QB, and it only stymies Weedens development. If Colt McCoy starts any game this season for any reason other than injury or suspension to Weeden, Mike Holmgren is absolutely out of a job. That would just be an admission of failure, or admission of a big mistake. A mistake with a 28 year old QB is too late to fix. Holmgrens job rests on Weedens arm. Ps, I like Colt McCoy far better than Weeden, even if Weeden were 22 years old.

So Vick had 4 INT's and that's the best the Brownies could do? They have some serious offensive questions but I was surprised how close the game was. I didn't watch the game but it sounds like Cleveland's defense is solid.
Anyway, I'm glad a divisional foe lost! WHO DEY!!!

If Kendall Wright is taken, take Brian Quick, Stephen Hill or Alshon Jeffery. Hell, even Reuben Randle would have been a good pick. But to go completely off base and change the future of your franchise because 1 player was taken is just nonsense. If they wanted to take a QB, they should have just thrown first round picks at St. Louis. till they could get Griffin (who looked outstanding today). Don't settle for a 28 year old failed minor league pitcher coming out of a janky spread offense that throws the ball 600 times a year. That's a great way to waste another 5 years of your franchise. Colt McCoy may have not been perfect, but he put the ball in his WRs hands. Last year, the Browns had 38 dropped passes. If you assume most of those passes were caught, as they should have been (say 28 of the 38 passes should have been caught), that makes Colt's completion percentage 63%. If they caught all 38, which is unrealistic for a team to have 0 dropped passes, he would have a completion percentage of 65%. That would have been good for 5th in the league. It gets to the point where you actually feel bad for the Cleveland fans for having to put up with a group of such incompetent jackasses heading up their favorite NFL team.

The other rookie QB's did okay today. Weeden was the worst. Browns will sit in the basement this year.

As for getting Griffin, Holmgren said they offered more than the Redskins, but St. Louis took Shanahan's deal because Fisher and Shanahan are friends. They should've just focused on getting Colt some offensive help.

A few points I got from the game:
The defense didn't look good. They allowed 456 yards. Richardson didn't look that good. He averaged 2.1 yards per carry (39 yards, 19 carries) Weeden didn't look good. He had a 5.1 passer rating. Shurmur didn't look good. He doesn't know when he is and isn't allowed to challenge. Keep in mind that all of this happened at home. The only good part of the game for Cleveland was that Vick gave them the ball 4 times. Dalton should have no trouble learning from Vick's mistakes. The real question is how big of a hit Weeden's AWR stat in "Madden" will take in this week's update.
