you're crazy if you don't think the ravens are far superior than us in every possible way.

Sorry but they're not. They have lots of weaknesses (secondary apart from Reed, lack of consistent pass rush, spotty OL) but we did nothing to exploit any of them.

Why is there no demand for accountability outside of Marvin Lewis? The defense was the bane of the game but apparently it's all Marvins fault right?

you're severely underestimating Lardarius Webb

Webb didn't allow a single touchdown pass in 2011, and opposing quarterbacks posted a miserable 55.6 passer rating on throws into his coverage. Also a playmaker, Webb recorded eight interceptions, including three in the playoffs and had 23 pass breakups. One of the best young corners in football, Webb doesn't turn 27 until October.

It is interesting that more people aren't making FIRE ZIMMER threads. While I think that would also be an over-reaction, it was the defense that let the team down Monday night. Tough opponent, sure, but why are our DBs unable to hold on to turnovers?

Come to think of it, we've been pretty bad at getting turnovers since last year too. Remember the bet the LBs and DBs had about who would get the first interception?

But again Marvin is the HC - he sets the tone and as the HC is ultimately responsible.

Some individual players did well - like Boling, Zeitler and Faine. But we also had offensive issues like not finishing drives and sloppy route running from Gresham and Tate. Why weren't they benched? Again back to Marvin.

Flat also covers the constant problem of coming out of the gate and immediately falling behind in games. We never seem to come out like competent pros - we're either way too timid or way too amped. That is game preparation.

If Marvin had the cure for handling the emotions of people he probably would have a much more lucrative career than coaching football.

The offense was prepared. The PLAYERS missed opportunities. Marvin can not make a pass be complete. The offensive line, AJ, The Firm, Hawkins were all prepared to play and showed it. So are you saying he prepared part of the team but not other parts?

I did not see any blatantly bad route running by Tate. As well, not sure how you judge this unless you have a copy of the playbook and know what he was suppose to be running. He looked good coming off the ball and in and out of his breaks. I guess I would ask for an explanation of your assessment.

Taylor Mays got benched. Marvin does not have a problem taking someone out of a game if there is reason and something better behind him. It would have been hard to bench the entire defense.

Betcha had it happened, plenty of people would've whined about how bad the 2nd team D did against the Raven's offense. Of course then we could arbitrarily overrule them with a simple 'no tish, Sherlock' defense I'm prone to use when people are being stupid over even more stupid things.

That should be the reason that people should want Marvin Lewis gone. Every time we lose this year people are going to want him gone. The reason he gets a pass all the time is because of how TERRIBLE we were before he got here. This one game though is not reason enough to want him gone.

I do however feel that if we do not do well this year and make the playoffs again, then it may be time to look in another direction, But the question is, can we really find someone good to replace him.

As a Marvin supporter myself I agree with this, I thought he should have been gone after 2010 to go from 10 to 4 wins but his job was justified after the 2011 season going from 4 to 9 wins with even less of a roster from 2010, however the one thing he has never done which I'm eager to see now is how he follows up a winning season, we could have back to back winning seasons and miss the playoffs and I'd still be satisfied with that knowing the schedule and expectations this year, but if he follows up another playoff season with another 4 win season with Dalton and Green on this roster then even I would want a change

That ^ and Suggs is out. And Flacco has not proven he is yet consistent from game to game.

Ravens Schedule:

Bengals - Win
Eagles
Patriots
Browns
Chiefs
Cowboys
Texans
Browns
Raiders
Steelers
Chargers
Steelers
Redskins
Broncos
Giants
Bengals

I think we talk about what giant supermen they are a bit later in the season.

I will put more of the loss on Zimmer then on Grudan then on Marvin in that order.

Anyways, I don't get this thread after just one week. If we start out 0-3 or whatever fine, but it is just 1 loss in the column and the Browns are 4 days away. Get a grip people.

personally I'm a Marvin supporter because of the fact I haven't forgotten where this team was before him and I'm grateful he has us where we are at this point as opposed to where Shula/Coslet/LeBeau went with this team, I'm sure I'm setting the bar low to think like that but it is what it is and I take what I can get, and as a supporter of his by no means do I think he does no wrong,

I even thought he singlehandedly lost the Houston game last year using a timeout on the final drive when Houston didnt have any to help Yates regain his composure to throw that winning touchdown on that drive - http://boards.bengals.com/showthread.php?t=91501

however in the Ravens game Marvin didn't lose this game, everyone lost this game - Lewis, Gruden, Zimmer, Offense, Defense, Everyone

to say Lewis lost this game is saying everyone else did a fine job which they clearly did not
Big rep to you on your post. I think this is one I can totally agree with.

I have no problem with waiting to say that they're a Super Bowl team (which I think they are), but some people are complaining about the Bengals season being in jeopardy, then when you say that the loss was to one of the best teams in football they say "It's too early to say that."

Does anyone not see the irony here?

Don Banks said it best in his power rankings on the Bengals for Sports Illustrated

Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)
There was nothing about the Bengals' showing in Baltimore Monday night that made you think they're a bad team headed for a losing season. But there also was nothing about the Bengals' showing to make you think they've closed the gap on the defending division champion Ravens. If anything, it looks to be a bit wider this year. The most positive note was that Cincy has found itself another receiving weapon in the speedy Andrew Hawkins.

Dickson & Pitta > Gresham &Lee/Charles(Gresham is better than both, but again they're better in 2 TE sets)

Ngata & A. Jones > Dunlap(Oft-Injured) & Johnson

Lewis, Kruger, McClain, Upshaw/McClellan > Lawson, Howard, Maualuga but barely, now if Suggs were healthy it'd be no contest.

Reed > Nelson
SS
Pollard > Mays/Miles
CBs
Webb & Williams > Hall & Clements but we're probably better depth wise plus Hall still isn't 100% recovered from his Achilles injury

2003: 8-8. Did a great job getting us from "historically bad" to "mediocre".

2004: 8-8. Didn't improve, but he deserved a pass for dealing with what was essentially a rookie QB.

2005: 11-5. Great job, deserved extension.

2006: 8-8. Some teams would've fired Marv after this season. 10 arrests and the team regressed.

2007: 7-9. Most teams would've fired Marv here. Team continues to regress and Marv still hadn't turned the defense around.

2008: 4-11-1. All 31 teams not owned by Mike Brown would have cleaned house after this season. Some excuse this season because Palmer got hurt. The Bengals were 0-4 with Palmer in this season.

2009: 10-6. I guess one winning season makes up for 3 straight disappointing ones...right? Either way, Marv won COY and deserved to keep his keep his job after this performance. Most teams would've given him a pretty short leash though, considering the previous 3 disappointing seasons.

2010: 4-12. All 31 teams not owned by Mike Brown would've cleaned house after this season. Marv's second 4 win season in 3 years. An astounding 10 straight losses. For the record, I'm 95% certain that bringing back Marv is the reason Carson demanded a trade. It was after this season that I realized Marv had a lifetime deal.

2011: 9-7. A very surprising season. Almost seems like Marv always leads this team to success when noone thinks he will, and to failure whenever the expectations get too high. That said, this was only Marv's 3rd winning season in 9 years.

2012: 0-1. Can you really blame people for fearing the worst? Marv doesn't exactly have a good track record thus far. Lately (last 4 years) it's been boom or bust. By "boom" I mean an early exit in the playoffs. By bust I mean a 4 win season. No fan base on the planet would be inspired by that.

2013: ?

2014: ?

Marv's tenure is approaching the Belichicks, Fishers and Reids of the coaching world.

Think about this: The owner of the Eagles has basically said this is a make or break season for Andy Reid. That man has coached 13 seasons. 9 of those were winning seasons, with 5 NFC title games and a Superbowl. Fisher and John Fox were fired last year with Superbowls on their resume as well. Yet Marv gets a 2 year extension without a playoff win.

I am (was) a big supporter of Marvin Lewis.
I remember football around here before Marvin.
I also had hope that he could have influence on the front office as I have ZERO confidence that the people calling the shots have any idea how to run a football team (or anything else for that matter).

But that hasn't happened.
We see the same mistakes from the front office as well as the coaching staff.
I don't think he has that much say about things.
And most importantly, his time here has run its course.

As far as the posters claiming this opinion is based on ONE game, I remind everyone that the Bengals have lost their last eight games against teams with a winning record.
Eight and 0 and counting. Plus Marvin in the past has had some of the worst seasonal records in the NFL

Only in Cincinnati would a coach with Marvins record get an extension.
Time to see what Coach Zimmer can do.
