Drew Brees has not played well.

Here are a few reasons I think why he hasn't:

1) Drew Brees is on the wrong side of 30.

2) Drew Brees is missing his head coach, and interim head coach due to suspensions.

3) Steve Spagnulo's defense has not really helped Drew Brees in the way they thought it would.

4) The Saints rushing game is ranked 22nd.

5) Their schedule is hard.

All this means is no matter how good a player is, if there are too many factors working against him he won't play well.

Oh yea, some numbers......He's completing 55%, 6.5 ypa, 7 TDs to 5 Ints, 77 rating......Same everything but the coach.

Rodgers, Brady and Brees......Those were the creme de la creme for a few years now. What happened??

It's like I always said when debating QBs, they are more reliant on their supporting cast than any other position.

Becuz of this a good one can be made to look very average.

A lot of you guys would have none of it.

Explain Brees' extreme drop off and the Saints being 0-3.......It's all about the QB right? He makes everyone around him better and wins ball games with his awesome QB powers no matter what right? Especially an "elite" QB like Brees, making all that money, how dare him?? Lulz

I told ya'll that thought process was craziness. Should have listened ya hermits.

Dude, they've lost to the Skins, Panthers and Chiefs. I guarantee you most folks had them down for 3-0 all day.

Saint D and run game have been average at best this whole time.

QBs play well into their 30's....give him Payton back, and he's his usual self again in no time.

My main point is that in spite of popular opinion, good or even great QBs don't just shower the league with badassery regardless of circumstances. Many have claimed they do exactly that no matter how many examples I gave them to the contrary. Here's another current example to show how right I am, so you know I had to make a thread for it cuz I'm humble like that.

I didn't say their defense or running game was good. I said both were bad. I listed he did not have Peyton or his Interim HC Vitt. He's still on the wrong side of 30 no matter how you slice it.

Hey, don't get me wrong, those are good points that you made. The only thing I really disagreed with was the schedule.

And yea, he is on the wrong side of 30, but for QBs, that's not as big of a deal as some other positions.

And you know Bryan, tbph, the other issues you pointed out, are actually probably why the mighty Brees has fallen off so dramatically to start this year. 0-3, 15% drop in completion %....That's extreme and the Saints being so reliant on his arm and Sean Payton's game planning and coaching ability are why they've started so slow.

Remaining games:
@ GB
VS. SD
@ TB
@ DEN
VS. PHI
VS. ATL
@ OAK
VS. SF
@ ATL
@ NYG
VS. TB
@ DAL
VS. CAR

I count 4 "easy" games(Technically there are no easy teams but those teams are the weakest) left on the schedule, they had a tough schedule before all the bounty crap and suspensions, it's even tougher without Peyton there.

Left out he held out of OTA and some of camp for contract reasons. Lost a lot of good reps with his WRs. I would think this is the real reason he is less efficient this year.

It is amazing what a good head coach, Payton, who is also the play-caller for the offense can mean to their team. Not to mention the off-season distractions with the bounty-gate scandal.

Crazy numbers. Especially considering his record passing yards and completion percentage just last season.

Rodgers isn't doing so hot now either.

Are you trying to imply that there were other factors that contributed to CP being seen as a mediocre QB?

Haha, imply it, I've stated my case on that front very clearly, but those conversations led to broader ones about the QB position in general.

One of the sticking points was that a great QB will perform at their optimal level regardless of circumstance, which was ridiculous, but several people argued that point to me. Now I'm just rubbing their faces in it with this most recent example that serves as further evidence to support my opinion.

I see 9 W's if Payton were on the sidelines, w/o him, they'll do good to win six.

I've always said coaching is the biggest difference maker in this league.

DB doesnt stink...lost of dropped passes....defense not holding...lots of contributing factors. Drew is still sharp but he is looking sickly on the sideline lately when he realizes hes lost another game.

Why all the excuses? A good QB gets it done no matter what. Stop adding context since it clearly shouldn't matter at all.

You're right as usual Savage. If Brees had his head coach back he would of thrown for over 600 yards and beat the Packers.

That's something Saints fans can look forward to I guess. When Joe Vitt comes back they might get a little better, but I foresee a 4-12 to 6-10 season for them. Definitely no better than 8-8.

Also, Karma's a *****.
