I think the fact the Reds had only 1 hit after the first inning has more to do with why they lost than anything

Nah. The game would have been over after 9 if Phillips hadn't tried to go to third on a wild pitch.

Now that's strange to say the game could have been decided in the 1st inning but it's true

Dusty did not manage the end of this game well at all. Painful loss.

I hate believing in jinxes but I knew this would happen. Every other comment, over 100+ commenting on the Reds Facebook photo about a possible game 4...."Not necessary,no need, sweep!" All the brooms there tonight....but jinxes & sports go hand n hand for me,lol.

Not saying that's why we lost because had BP not made a blunder on the basepath, this game would have been over top 9. Can't knock him too hard with his 6 hits so far.

If Broxton/ Hanigan hadn't have had that ball get away,we get out of that inning without giving up a run.

Better seal this tomorrow, don't wanna go 5 with this team.

Will it be Latos?

Well what's more dissapointing to me is the fact the Reds offense followed up that hitting clinic in Game 2 with only 1 hit after the first inning tonight

No doubt. We looked more comfortable out west. Better finish the deal tomorrow vs. Zito.

Cueto diagnosed with mild oblique strain, availability unknown.

Latos came to the park sick today. Only way Leake goes is if they remove someone, like Cueto, til the WS.

with Zito pitching tomorrow, he tends to put a lot of runners on with his 1.40 whip, if Zito makes the Reds look like what they did tonight, that will be very infuriating

I have no idea who is pitching tomorrow either but the pitchers shouldnt be relied on to be perfect like tonight when the offense has put on hitting clinics already

I really hope Latos can go on his second 3 day rest tomorrow.(I guess that's hope Cueto is ok,lol)
But if they don't think Cueto can go if we make it to the NLCS,then Leake it is. *sigh*

This loss throws our plans off.
Bats better be in the cage early tomorrow.

Dusty had to save Chappy in case a game 4,2 innings he's out of play.

How did we do against Zito this year?

Zito went 0-1 in 2 starts and walked 6 in 6 innings in the 2nd start

Seems like out of all out pitchers,we fail to give Homer the run support needed more than the rest. Spoiled another great performance by him.

2 questions.

1. Why didn't we let Chapman pitch the 10th?

2. Why didn't we pull Broxton immediately when he put 2 men on with no outs? Teams are supposed to have a short leash in situations like that. Especially in the playoffs.

1. He would have had to bat leadoff in the bottom of the 9th. Remember Paul batting?

2. Say he gives up a run,we lose,he's not an option tomorrow with 2 innings pitched if needed.

Man....haters gonna hate indeed.
His problem early on was consistency, but he seemed much better in the 2nd half. I think his career numbers swing that way too. It may be not being the focal point that has gotten him to where we thought he'd be (though clearly not the power pitcher we'd thought 5 years ago.)

Still, can't argue with results, especially out of your #4 pitcher.

Now tomorrow is a wildcard...What do you do? I've heard everyone say Latos, but Latos just went 3 days ago and threw close to 70 pitches as well as 50 in a bullpen session earlier. Iw ould rest him for a potential game 5 start, personally on his normal rest.

That leaves one of two options: A bullpen start (Sam LeCure?) or Mike Leake. Now, I know the problem people have with Leake being that we need to disable Cueto, but heres' the thing: We don't.

We could just as easily put away JJ Hoover. This would be better for the Reds, imo, for 2 reasons: 1. Gives us another starter should something happen with a starter (Cueto's oblique continues to be problematic or another guy goes down) and 2. He gives us another option off of the bench to hit, run or relieve someone.

So, yeah...That's my take.

Bailey just said Leake is going tomorrow. Looks like Cueto is done for now,til WS,IF this is true. I want to hear it from Dusty though.

Makes sense if Cueto can't go in the NLCS with a mild oblique strain.
Gives Latos the game 5 start IF need be.

*sigh*

Shoulda sealed this to wait and see if Cueto healed for any availability next round.

Leake is going tomorrow? We are doomed. Why can't Latos go? He only pitched 4 innings in game 1.

Bailey just said in a post game interview. Obviously he doesn't have the final say so ill wait til Dusty says.

If he does, somebody has to go. I like Ali's idea about what to do.

If Leake loses,we can't hit, whatever, that gives Latos another days rest, arguably our best pitcher if Cueto is done.

Quote:
CINCINNATI -- The Reds haven't announced who will start Game 4 of the National League Division Series, but Game 3 starter Homer Bailey said in an interview televised on MLB Network that the team was planning on using Mike Leake on Wednesday.

Leake is not on the team's NLDS roster, so some sort of move will be needed, whether it's putting Game 1 starter Johnny Cueto or another player on the disabled list. Whoever is taken off the roster will be ineligible to play in the NLCS if the Reds advance.

Cueto left Game 1 of the series after just eight pitches, with Mat Latos -- the scheduled Game 3 starter -- stepping in and pitching four innings in his place. Latos, though, is reportedly ill. Although he denied it to the media after Game 3, his wife tweeted that he's been sick since the Reds were in St. Louis for the last series of the regular season.

Leake, 24, was 8-9 with a 4.58 ERA for the Reds this season and was left off the NLDS roster. Leake threw a complete game in a victory over the Giants on June 29 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, allowing just one run on nine hits in his only appearance against the Giants this season.

Barry Zito (15-8, 4.15) will start Game 4 for the Giants.

After the Game 3 loss, Reds manager Dusty Baker said the team hadn't decided who would start Game 4.

"As of right now, we're not sure yet," Baker said immediately following the game. "We're going to go in and discuss it and find out all the parties involved and then try to come up with a solution tonight. I mean, I wish I had an answer, but I don't."

Bailey's TV interview was shown after Baker's, and Bailey's locker is next to Leake's in the Reds clubhouse.

When asked what options the Reds had, Baker said it was Latos or Leake.

"You have to go with the healthy bodies," Baker said. "You hate missing -- that's part of the consideration, you know, is us going without [Cueto in the NLCS]. We realize what's at stake and that's part of the deicsion if a guy can -- if we think he's going to be able to go in the next series."

Only way I take Cueto off the roster is iF he can't go in the NLCS.
Otherwise, remove Hoover,Arrendondo or Simon. Leake can pinch hit, pitch in relief, etc.

I'm pretty sure he was being waved around by the 3rd base coach. I was at the game and heard people calling the 3rd base coach a moron. I didn't see him waving him around though. (I wasn't looking for it.)

I was thinking the same thing, he almost has to pitch no-hitters to get a win. It seems odd to me that Leake wasn't on the active list to start with, I would think you would carry all your starters and set either the weakest reliever or utility player. Starters could provide longer relief than the average reliever as well as what we need in this case, an emergency start. Had they done that, we wouldn't be worrying about what to do with Cueto, he would be there when we needed him in the next series, assuming we get there. That comedy of key errors and mental mistakes cost us the game last night, you can't do that in the playoffs and expect to get very far.Let's close this thing out tonight!
