Default whats up with the running game?

the running games really struggling...is it the oline having issues, the running backs having issues, or both? seems like its getting worse week by week, running will help take pressure off of dalton and help the defense rest between drives..its gonna be a tough season if we cant get the running game going..

I think its a combination of blocking schemes, loss of Cook and Wharton, and BJGE not being all that talented exept in certain situations, but he isn't showing all that either. He hasn't had a 20+ run in years I think.

BJGE has no vision whatsoever. He just puts his head down and hopes to get a couple of yards.

When you average 1.6 yards and a long of five yards while the guy behind you is averaging 8 yards a carry you're doing something wrong.

I don't see them block the big holes for a chance of a long run.

The D is in our backfield before the RB gets to the line of scrimmage.

The straight ahead blocking is terrible. The only running plays that work well are the ones that involve trapping and/or misdirection.

Mike Brown and Mediocre Marv had all the fans fooled. Just because you played with the Pats, makes you a good RB in this league? He was not even the starter over there. Dumb move once again! They were trying to pull a Dillion, in the opposite nature. but hey, our OL is horrible too. They cannot run block for anything. With all those high draft picks you would think they would be able to open up holes, but all they do is fall all over themselves and DLman get off their half ar se blocks. When is Alexander going to be held accountable like Bratkowski was? Alexander needs to go!

what can they do to fix it? trade for a running back? or maybe a good center or guard?.or is the fix already on the roster?

Cedric Peerman must be an absolutely terrible RB or we would at least bring him in a spell Ced. I know I keep repeating myself ad nauseum but we could snatch Bobby Rainey off the Raven's PS.

As far as run blocking? The real answer>Cook>Fanine

So, when Cook reclaims his spot, there should be a margainal improvement in the running game.

A struggling line coupled with Ellis just being nothing more than short yardage/goalline guy is not a good recipe for success. I'm sure people will still defend him, and I really want the best for the guy, but he hasn't done well since the Baltimore game.

Also, BJGE is NOT a feature back. We need to run more of a committee and he will do better.

2 reasons.

Our o line is not that good,,,

We have no true RB,,,we have a short yardage guy who looked ok at first and now looks terrible and has fumbled multiple times after never doing it in his career,,,then we have,,,,,well,,,,B scott,,,who has never been used properly,,,hasnt lived up to his potential ,,and doesnt stay healthy very well.

hence we stink at running the ball. Teams know this,,,and will key in on the pass now.

Been asking for Alexander to be let go for the last 3 years. He has tenure though. Like Al Roberts before him and Brat. His same schemes and his same ways. Not absolving Lewis at all....or some of the players but just like we say who has been here during all the losing at the top......we can say the same about how a Bengals OL, besides the 2005 one....has been lacking for a while.

Waht's up with the run game?.....We ain't got one. Nard looked good for five minutes and got hurt......Which ***** cuz Ellis def needs a good change of pace guy to take the burden off of him.

It's pretty simple to me, The Law Firm just isnt that good and is certainly not a feature back type.
We need to trade some picks and get Lattimore.

He will get plenty of time with Scott feared to be out.

Exactly right. BenJarvus Green-Ellis is still not used to playing behind the Bengals' offensive line which is coached to block way differently than what he was used to in New England. Sunset nailed it -- but it's not often the Cincinnati offensive line traps or misdirects all that well. If the straight ahead blocking was better -- as well as second level blocking -- BenJarvus would be breaking some long gains. This is a continuous issue and while injuries to Travelle Wharton and Kyle Cook are factors, I think Jeff Faine and Clint Boling have the professionalism and talent to do the job. Defensive linemen aren't idiots and they do watch film and the Bengals' blocking schemes when running the ball are too predictable.

I'd like to know how many different running backs this team has to go through before people really get a clue that it's bad run blocking and not the RB?

Thumbs down Re: whats up with the running game?

if we don't get a running back somewhere, were going to get dalton hurt, the defenses just tee off. ellis is purely a short yardage back. our o line is inept.

I think the current o-line isn't that good in scheme and strength (overall). I also think we are a lacking a playmaking running back needed for this o-line and their run-blocking schemes. That would be a rb with power but also has some speed and agility to make up for the o-line's deficiency. But if the o-line was as good as the 49rs, BJGE would be doing better. If the o-line was like the 49rs with a top 5 sort of back instead, then we would easily have a top-10 offense right now and maybe even a top 5.
