Default Andy Dalton not Losing Hope in His Team or the Season

"We have to be mentally tough to handle this," Dalton said. "It’s unfortunate that we’ve lost three in a row. We have to be mentally strong enough to handle it and turn things around -- and we have the team to do that."

I like it!!

Dalton's being a true leader and he's right because we're still very much in the run of things because no one is running away with the division of the wild card.

The rest of the team will feed off of his confidence

The team might, but the coaches will handcuff them. Same problems every year no matter who is on the field.

When Dalton starts feeling confident and comfortable....to the point he can audible and call his own plays (Manning Style)...that's when we'll have real offensive success.

They didn't share the rest of what he said.

"We've got the team to do it, if Giggles the Clown would just leave us alone. So, for the rest of the season, we've decided to lock him him up. when we're on the road, we'll lock him in his hotel room. For home games, like the Broncos game coming up, we'll lock him in the coaches office.

We got the rest of the coaches to go along with it. I mean. We've got the coordinators. What do we need Giggles for anyway? To throw the challenge flags? He can't even get that right. What else is he good for on the sideline? Managing the time clock? Are you serious?

I just don't see why we need him to be quite honest. He's cost us three games in a row now. We know Mike Brown won't fire him, so we're stepping as a team and showing some collective leadership. It's not like we're going to hurt him or anything. We won't do him any bodily harm or anything like that. We're just going to lock him in his room.

So long as we win, I don't he'll even be that upset. We'll sell tickets and Mr Brown will be happy. He might even give Giggles another extension. Plus, he's so observant, he probably won't even notice that Giggles isn't on the sideline. He might wonder why we started winning all these games, and making him so much more money. But that'll be it. Trust me. As long as he gets to keep his job, Marvin doesn't care what we do. So the way I look at it, locking him up and keeping him off the field is the best form of job security he could ask for. He'll probably thank us for it."

Meh, I think you're being awfully generous here. This is a pretty typical response from a QB in this situation, so I don't really think this is a very inspired or exceptional speech. I can't imagine if Matt Cassel, Carson Palmer, Matt Hasslebeck, or Christian Ponder etc. said the exact same thing that you'd be scrambling to praise their leadership.

I'm calling bias on this one...call me a Debbie Downer.

Right, but look at those franchises and realize that they've all had success and a winning mindset, which is something that we need here to continue to grow,.

Come on, what is he supposed to say in that situation. It has no bearing on leadership qualities. No one in their right mind to tell a media source that at 3-4 they think the season is hopeless and its time to quit.

What's he supposed to say?

"Well I'm already picking my golf clubs out for January! Looking forward to golfing in Florida this winter while those crazy SOB"s play the playoffs in the god awful cold weather!"

You know, I was really optimistic about Jay Gruden coming into the season
but honestly, his playcalling has made me sour to him.
I'm not sure if Dalton is incapable of doing what Jay is asking or if Jay is just calling terrible plays, but our 3rd down conversion rate is terrible and we don't throw it past the first down maker EVER.

Just more cliches and lip service you usually hear from teams that aren't winning.

Only problem is, a winning mindset is developed by an offense making plays on 3rd down, defenses making stops on third down and making plays in the 4th quarter to win games. Not from words spoken in a locker room.

And for good measure, Geno had 2.5 more Ben throw-downs in the playoff clinching win in Pittsburgh.

The team just needs to get better as a whole for improvements......Manning is the only QB in the history of the league to do what he does. Expecting Dalton to do that is not realistic nor is it necessary for the team to succeed.

I don't expect him to be Manning....but I think he's smart enough that if he were left alone a bit more, we'd be better off.

I mean I like this, but did you expect him to say anything else?

"We're screwed now, lost 3 in a row, our message boards are calling for all our heads, and the season is over"

Mathematically, it's not even close to over. Spiritually and mentally, there's got to be a BIG change. Better focus, better execution, more fire, better coaching. Need to get ****** and get mean and start games prepared and finish them strong. If it's in you, quit hiding it. The clock is ticking. Time for more guys to step up. We know who has and who hasn't. Do something.

This article just in via Sports Illustrated.

Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated asked Andy Dalton about his optimistic outlook for the rest of the season with the Bengals and Andy looked suspiciously around the room and leaned into Tony saying:

"Do you see the coaches around??? No….ok well the truth is were F$CK'D!!"
