You know we have bashed Rey M endlessly here and its merited on a certain level.
But Manny Lawson has done very little this season. I saw more out of Emmauel Lemur in limited snaps in his 1st game than Lawson has done all year. I thought Lawson was supposed to be this new wrinkle in Zim's scheme this year as being asked to blitz more. He's not playing at the same level he did last year. I don't see Lawson trying to deflect passes or causing any kind of disruption from his OLB spot. Now I did see Lawson get juked out of his chinstrap vs the Broncos on a catch by Decker I believe. Bottom line,he's a liability out there. Marvin coveted this guy out of N.C State, but the Niners knew something we didn't. Lawson disapears too much. They aren't missing him in San Fran. |

Lawson is just going through the motions out there.
The coaches know it. His playing time is being reduced every week it seems. It won't be long before he is a healthy scratch on Sundays. The coaches had Lemur, Rey and Burfict on the field together in the 4th Qtr Sunday. That is how the lineup should be for the rest of the year IMO. Skuta, Muck and Vinnie Rey as backups. |

It's a shame because he does seem to not want to be here for whatever reason.
I was counting on him to be an above average player. Now he's being replaced by an undrafted replacement.

He has been a huge disappointment. The coaching staff has certainly noticed this and he will be lucky to have any play time by the end of the year.

Lawson is below average, we all know this, and so does he. No other team tried to obtain him.
Lemur should play the rest of the season, that guy plays with a fire lit under his butt! Lemur, Burfict, and Mays for the remainder of the year. |

Agreed! Especially in the nickel package. Can we please get Rey off the field in the nickel!

He is showing signs of age as well. He can not cover people on short crossing routes that turn out to be long gains because he cant keep up....

The problem is that he plays what is becoming a dying position in the NFL which is the SLB position. Its a passing league and defenses are spending more and more time in nickle. When you go to nickle, the SLB is replaced with a corner.
Therefore he isn't playing very much and when he does play he doesn't seem to be all that into it for whatever reason. He's not a good enough pass rusher to stay on the field in nickel and he's readily being exposed in coverage so you know he's not good enough of a coverage backer to stay on the field. It's kind of a lose-lose situation for him. |

None of them can cover a tight end, or a back out of the backfield, Peyton killed them on little 5-6 yard dinks. |

with manny he is a physical freak of nature with talent at 6'5 240, and has speed off the edge. but with that said anybody remember him when he was good? it was 2009 with he had 6.5 sacks, the following (last with the niners he only got 2.5. There he was playing in the 3 technique. Also remember a guy of the name Ahmad Brooks? At LB and limited playing time he recorded only 1 sack in the each of his two seasons with us. With the niners he has recorded 6,5,7, and now 4 sacks with them. So of course they let Lawson go and he came here. with the emergence of Aldon Smith helped let him go also. now lawson is standing up and dropping back, and on the post about decker "juking him out of his chinstrap" i wouldnt go that far, but it was a poor effort to say the least on that play like many others for him. Him, moch should be coming off the edge, and while Zim has great ideas for guys, he just cant get em to work. Lawson doesnt show urgency or explosiveness, and most of the times in coverage looks lost. our LB core is that bad to say the least. Of course you want MJ and Dunlap on the field on pass situations, and our lack of pass rush hurts up, but put Lawson on the edge and let him fly down field, he may rush the QB instead of being targeted to be thrown at.
All in all, it was a potential steal for us at first when we got lawson, but he hasnt panned out for us, like moch, maualuga, mays, and yes ill even throw in MJ and Dunlap. We're recessing and not progressing. I think we all can agree to that |

The Bengals took Nate Clements, Taylor Mays, and Manny Lawson from the 49ers. I'd say the 49ers got the better end of that deal! |

Hey, if this would have worked for J Jo, then why couldn't it work for Lawson? |
