Default I miss the 2011 Dalton

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf3A9tZVrWo

This year his drop back form is uptight and unrelaxed. He doesn't have that swagger like he did last year. When he drops back he sits in the pocket and waits till his recievers pop open, & if they don't pop open in time then he's taking a sack instead of moving around in the pocket to where he won't get sacked or rolling out away from the pressure to avoid any kind of contact. We were all happy that we finally got a guy that could scramble out of the pocket and create a play unlike Palmer, but now Andy is focused to much on the play coming to him instead of using his feet to extend the play. I want him to just watch film on Aaron Rodgers and how he moves in the pocket. Rodgers senses the pressure and moves to where his O lineman is going to have the upper hand on his opponent.

Andy needs to relax and just play the game instead of thinking so much. There's no more pressure this season because we're basically done for. Now it's time to just play and have fun.

If you miss the 2011 dalton what you really mean to say is that you miss the 2011 pass protection.

Dalton can't step up to the pocket most of the time because there is no pocket to step up into.

Bottom line Football is a team game. It is never one persons fault when a team consistently loses. We are a inconsistent team who will probably be lucky to make .500

To many offensive line injuries, we refuse to put sanu/jones/even whalen at # 2 receivers, BJGE is not a bell cow back, MLB doesn't have any instincts...and there are many more reasons to why this team can't get it done. Dalton is close to the bottom of the list

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

With the lack of the run game and increase in teams trying to shut down AJ and Gresh.

I feel AD needs to look at the sideline pics. Identify certain coverages. Then actually have "run first" in mind when he sees them.

I bet teams are leaving gaps in coverage where he could sneek off some easy runs.

This would take some pressure off the receivers and our TE.

Last year teams at least respected Benson's game.

They don't care AT ALL about BJGE.

It was a bad decision to pick up BJGE. NE didn't want him back for a reason.

I know that's why we picked him up but it still was a bad call.

It's funny how Dalton is already drawing comparisons to Palmer.
-Takes sacks instead of escaping when possible
-Throws to open guys instead of throwing guys open
-Too many ints and not so smart decisions with the football

We've also got the same "excuses":
-WR's that run bad routes, causing incompletions and ints
-No running game
-Line not giving enough protection
-The defense can't seem to get off the field

I'm starting to think this has more to do with the coaching and management than the QB.

All i'm saying is, Dalton needs to improve his pocket awareness & move, and improve his 15+ yard passing....He wasn't moving in the pocket in the 1st half against Denver and then after halftime he came out and started to scramble after Jay got on him about it.

Dalton hasn't changed. He's the exact same quarterback he was last year, with a little stronger arm; not much though. Last year he made a living on the short yardage throws, and now teams expect it. Doesn't help that we have zero running game either.

Are you suggesting he spent his first offseason learning how to throw at least 1 INT a game?

Andy is actually better. The pass pro and run game are worse. We're constantly putting Dalton in 3rd and long situations where teams know we're going to pass.

Funny thing is, Dalton is on pace to put up numbers that are almost identical to Palmer's 2007 season.

Palmer- 373-575-4131-26-20 (86.7 rating)

Dalton- 364-570-4260-28-22 (86.7 rating)

In fact, the 2012 season is very similar to the 2007 season in other ways as well. Both had poor run games and defenses. Seems like that's been a theme since Rudi left.

During those 8 seasons, we've had several starting RBs, different starters on the o-line, different TEs and FBs and 2 different RB coaches. Only our o-line coach remained the same.

The difference between this year and last year is the Pass Protection. Last season Dalton had some time to let routes develop and throw the ball. This season if its more than a 3 step drop hes getting crushed.

Instead of missing Dalton, what I miss the most is the ability to run the ball. Carson had his best seasons when the Bengals could run the ball effectively, Andy has not had that luxury yet. I would really like to see how he performs with a consistent running game to keep defenses honest. Yeah he has some INT's, but he is playing quite well if you ask me given the fact that everyone knows that they are passing since they cannot run the ball.

And Carson did it with 2 reliable WRs (Chad and TJ) and a decent TE (Kelly). Andy is worse off than Palmer was because he has no usable #2 WR at this point and his TE is shy about contact in the middle of the field (which makes him almost useless as an outlet receiver).

The question does bring the nostalgia of the 2011 National Football League season for the Cincinnati Bengals. At this point,(game 9), the Cincinnati bengals were 5-2 and quarterback Andy Dalton's star was shining bright.

Now with quarterback Dalton's overall record at 12-12 with a playoff loss, he deserves a pat on the back and relegation to a back up role for the Cincinnati Bengals.

But with the Kansas City Chiefs taking AJ McCarron and Jacksonville Jaguars taking Matt Barkley in the 2013 National Football League draft, the Cincinnati Bengals would be forced to take the third or forth rated quarterback in the 2013 National Football League draft with the evitable outcome of incomptence and medocrity. We have that already!

As stated before, we are stuck with quarterback Andy Dalton and years of medocrity.

If the Bengals can get a competent RB Dalton's numbers will drastically improve. Barkley will be a failure in the NFL and McCarron will be middle of the pack if you ask me.

I don't think so, but he will be soon if we don't get him a new HC and a good RB.

Kelly was a great blocking TE, but a receiver he was not.

In 7 seasons as a Bengal:
126 catches
973 yards
3 tds

In the 1.5 seasons Gresham has played with Dalton, he's almost matched catches, surpassed yards, and damn near tripled the receiving TDs.

90 catches
1029 yards
8 tds

For all the hate Gresham gets, he's still one of the best receiving TEs this team has had in a LONG time.

I think it is hilarious how much everyone freaks out about Dalton.

Tell me who these Quarterbacks are. (Stats from their sophomore seasons as starters)

52% completion, 3762 yards, 24 TDs, 17 INTs, 28 sacks

62.7% completion, 2385 yards, 17 TDs, 9 INTs, 23 Sacks

60.9% completion, 3303 yards, 19 TDs. 24 INTs, 30 Sacks

56.3% Completion, 2598 yards, 18 TDs, 15 INTs, 24 Sacks

53.7% completion, 2282 yards, 8 TDs, 13 INTs, 47 Sacks

56.8% Completion, 1918 yards, 7 TDs, 7 INTs, 18 Sacks

These are the stats of Eli Manning, Big Ben, Brett Favre, John Elway, Steve Young and Ken Anderson.

Andy is fine just give the guy some time to work. You don't know what you have in a QB until year three so lets wait and see.

Kelly had better hands.

Check out his catch percentages versus Gresham's...

I think what you mean to say is that the Bengals now use the TE for more than just being another o-lineman. And still I don't think they use him enough.
