I don't think my point is going across very well..I do not think alcohol needs to be banned but weed should..Our pioneers survived on alcohol to keep warm..I do not drink but it has good benefits to the body..

Healthcare drug costs are on the rise, and wouldn't doubt if they were well above illegal drug sales. Not to mention some suggest the government controls part of the drug trade, see Afghanistan.

You're right. I was actually thinking of the prescription drug industry as I posted that, but I could also (eventually) see harder drugs being legalized and taxed.

As if alcoholism isn't a big enough burden on society.

And, yes, I understand that not everyone who uses weed will do so "irresponsibly". But like alcohol, enough will that it will be a burden.

One of the war on drug's biggest goals was to reduce the demand for illegal drugs, especially marijuana. There is more demand for marijuana today than when it started 40 years ago. That will not change under the current strategy. Those who say legalizing marijuana will increase its usage are right to some extent. However, usage will still go up if it remains illegal, just like it has for the last 40 years or more. The drug has been pseudo legal in several places in this country for a long time. We have survived this disastrous scenario regardless. And, when it is fully legalized some day, maybe we can move on to more important issues. Our society can handle this new reality, just like it handles all the drunks right now.

yeah, what I don't understand is how the legalization of marijuana will make this increase. There are people out there that use it irresponsibly now....kinda. If anything, legalizing it will make the act itself less irresponsible.

I get that inner monologue going occasionally.

Then I'm cool for a minute.....
Then comes the...."But what if it isn't the weed, and I'm just having a legit heart attack"

Every now and then it doesn't work the way I wanted it to. Like using a gas mask to get high, or smoking out of a bong that's taller than me. Sometimes, I just do stupid ****.
