Matt Elam the safety out of UF needs to be on this list. As much as it pains me to say it he probably better than the two georgia boys. also I agree with you rankings of the DE with the two kids from LSU, but I really hope we dont buy into the hype there because they constantly get ripped for poor technique

He is a smaller Taylor Mays. Lowers the boom but offers no form tackling and isn't great when asked to cover man.

Elam is terrible.

Along with Elam being very overrated, I think DJ Swearinger out of South Carolina is very UNDERrated. I watched a couple South Carolina games this year, including this past weekend's game, and he has been a force on their defense. He has played all over their secondary, and being effective in all of them.
Very good crop of safeties to choose from this upcoming draft. Same with running backs. |

Nico Johnson's stock is in a rapid decline. Its becoming very apparent he can not provide anything in pass coverage. He was not even a part of the 3-3-5 that Bama used against A&M.

One riser who might make your list is Travis Long SLB of Washington State. Had two sacks this past weekend and is up to 9 1/2 on the year. Plays for a terrible team but is starting to get some pub.

I'm with you. He is the best SS prospect in the nation. Here's a couple recent write ups about him:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwWn253H2jk An omission--coming from that same Florida squad--is Mike Gillislee. While his numbers don't pop off the screen, his play does. He's excellent in pass pro, possibly the best center of gravity in this class, and he can get the tough yards. He runs low, as compared to some of the other prominent backs this year. He seems to have trouble breaking tackles into long runs, but I imagine the level of competition in the SEC has muted his numbers significantly. Remember, Lattimore had similar numbers against similar competition before his tragic injury. I'm predicting his talent will be on display in the Senior Bowl this year, as he might get some separation from the pack of underclassmen with a good performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW4DdFPd8cI I'm really interested in a SLB like Sean Porter. Porter's done well with his transition to a 4-3 outside backer from a pass rush specialist this year. He got an interception in Saturday's win against 'Bama, and is having a good year. He has some work to do when back from the LOS as far as angles of pursuit, but he is our prototypical SLB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdtKVe4Ikk0 Good list BS1!

I dont think Bernard is the best RB in this class.....I have watched a lot of video and live games on this kid and each time I watch him, I become less interested. I feel like he lacks explosion and acceleration. Just does not look fast to me. I think Ellington needs to be A LOT higher on that list.
Randle Ellington Bell Lacy Bernard |

Nice write up.
You may want to consider throwing David Amerson into your safety rankings. Scott Wright has him going to us in his mock draft.

If you like safeties who miss tackles because they are trying to knock someone out.

Yea ive watched several UF games and I saw no play like that coming from the safeties.. Besides we already have Taylor Mays to do that.

Hey berserker, can the list of LB be refined even more to SAM, MIKE, and WILL? This may help some with which linebackers are best suited at certain positions on our team.

This would be awesome. And probably create a lot of discussion/debate as well.

I donno, I still like Damontre Moore. Jarvis Jones is a better prospect, Mingo has more upside, but Moore is #3 imo.
3.0 sacks against Florida, 1.5 against LSU, and 1.0 against Alabama don't lie. Definitely a top-10 pick right now. |

Re: Long overdue rankings
Taylor and Barner, IMO, should be much farther down the list.
Taylor just is not elusive. He does not have any real cutback ability and seems to be a north/south runner that needs wide running lanes to shake loose. See him go down on first contact as well and just does not show much make you miss ability. Barner will be a third down change of pace guy at the next level. Nice luxury for teams that have an established running game.
