A lot of people on here suggested he needed to lose some weight in order to improve his play, apparently he agrees.
http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Matchup-of-the-Game/08fb093d-5918-4da1-9d7a-f0dba7f280c0 He has worked his way up to an average MLB the last 2 games, lets see if he can get even better. Last edited by Bengals_Moderator; 11-15-2012 at 10:52 AM. |

I called him fat and slow when the season started and I got scoffed at. Guess I was right.

don't want to hear about what is making him play better, I just want him to play better consistently.

So he was too fat to make a tackle?
Not sure I buy that one...

Too slow to be in proper position?

Too slow to be in proper position?
Might believe that, but I was talking about his missed tackles not being in position. That's just bad technique and lack of disciplined football. Nothing to do with carrying 20 extra pounds.

Ever try and tackle a RB properly when holding a twinkie? Just doesn't work....

But personally, I know I would do many things better, if I would lose 20 lbs. |

Rey's problem has ALWAYS been that he over pursues, not so much being out of position. Not sure how weight loss helps with that....
Sounds like an excuse to me.

It's nice to see him playing better. He was really making a lot of people mad. Either he had to change something or the organization was going to do something. Glad he's putting in the hard work to get things starting to turn around.

The weight loss has helped, he looked so much faster vs. the Giants. To me he is still slow to read and react. He is still taking on blocks a few yards down the field rather than in the hole.
I don't if that is because he just doesn't see it or if he isn't putting in the prep work during the week. Vontez sees things so much sooner and meets the blocker or the ball in the hole. I love Rey and hope he can continue to improve I think if he and Tez are playing at a high level it takes our d to a new level. |

Just asking, not fighting. Maybe over pursuing happens because he was too fat to slow his momentum. Not trying to be d..k with you, but 20 lbs on anyone can make a huge difference. All of us that are overweight, should lose 20 lbs and see how much better we feel and move. |

Same thing with Burfict. As an ASU season ticket holder, Burfict was awful last year. He always missed tackles, always over-pursued. A RB would make a cut and Vontaze would completely whiff.
He lost a bunch of weight since the combine and got in shape, and he has looked 100% better. |

I think there is a lot too that as the NFL is more of a passing league and smaller LB's seem to be the trend.
Lamur impressed me when he was in there with his coverage ability. He's lighter for an LB. |

Look at the talent now at TE. Your backers have to be as good or better athletes. |

I could care less how much weight he loses! He squandered his chance at being a Starting MLB in the NFL. We better address the LB position in the first round of the draft and kick his *** out of Cincy. Sick of his poor play and off field antics. Anyone who thinks he will be a great LB is sorely mistaken. I proudly threw away my Maualuga jersey and moved onto someone who can actually help this team, A.J. Green. I am ready for a new face to come in and command our defense. Someone I know can be a leader and play above average.
If you like average to below average, you can have Maualuga. I am ready to move on. |

Little late now. Vontaze will be MLB in future. But Rey is playing better these last 2 games. And you can't deny that. I don't think anyone is saying Rey will be great, but right now if he is serviceable and improving, what more can you ask? |

He needs to play like he did last game for the rest of the year or else we'll put Burfict at MIKE, which I'm kind of hoping for anyways, but Rey could change my mind.
