Default Big Ben's injury may be significant

PITTSBURGH -- The news coming out about 12 hours after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his right shoulder isn't good for the Steelers.

A source close to the team told ESPN's Ed Werder that Roethlisberger's injury could take some time to heal. If this is a significant injury, Roethlisberger would miss both games against the AFC North-leading Ravens. The Steelers (6-3), who trail Baltimore (7-2) by one game, play the Ravens twice in the next three weeks in a strange scheduling quirk.

According to Werder's report, Roethlisberger is "extremely sore" Tuesday morning and "hurting pretty bad." He is heading to get another MRI, which will give the team a better idea of the significance of the injury to his right shoulder.

Head coach Mike Tomlin will address reporters at noon. I'm at the Steelers facility, so check back later for updates.

Tomlin: Big Ben questionable for Ravens

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sprained his right shoulder in the 16-13 overtime win over Kansas City on Monday night, coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.

"Obviously, his injury puts his participation in the questionable category," Tomlin said Tuesday.

The Steelers (6-3) play the Ravens (7-2) for first place in the AFC North in five days at Heinz Field.

Leftwich will start if Roethlisberger can't

that big dumb neanderthal is always "questionable" before a Ravens game, limping around all week with a boot on his foot before coming out and playing good smashmouth football on Sunday.

He's fine.

I hate Ben, but until he's in a coffin I'm never going to assume he's QUESTIONABLE.

Ben Roethlisberger identified the rare and dangerous rib injury: a dislocated first rib that could have pressed against his aorta.

Scary. Is he done for football ?

I'd say it would be season ending, but then again, the Steelers organization would risk a players wellbeing for a couple of wins any day.

Hope Ben recovers stinks to see this ! Never like to see anybody get injured

"Ben Roethlisberger has reportedly suffered a rare rib injury that could be life-threatening if he returns to the field too soon, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He dislocated a rib when he was sandwiched between two Kansas City Chiefs defenders during the Pittsburgh Steelers' win on Monday night.

The Steelers have indicated that the rib injury is actually a bigger concern than the sprained right shoulder he was initially diagnosed with. The dislocated rib is apparently pressing into his aorta, and can only heal itself with time."

I completely hate Worthlessberger, but I wouldn't wish for injury upon him. I'm not upset that it happened, and it definitely helps the Bengals if he's out for any extended period of time, but I just can't root for big injuries. It's kinda classless to hope for it, and hopefully most here agree.
