Looks like Hawkins strained his knee in practice today and is questionable for this Sunday. Marvin Jones is doubtful also.

This may just mean more snaps for Sanu. We may need his physical presence more than Hawkins speed for this game anyhow. Either hopefully the injury isn't serious and we see both making plays on the field Sunday. |

Sanu getting more playing time is good.
Sanu is a good slot/possesion WR, he is TJ all over again. He doesn't have the speed to go deep, or get seperation. I just hope Marvin Jones is ready next week. That will give us a real #2 to go AJ. I hope the future is AJ as our #1, Jones as our #2, and Sanu the Slot guy. I see Hawkins as another slot WR, and returner if he can improve in that area.

That's why we have Whalen.

Like I said, TJ was dependable and consistant, but I don't ever remember seeing him make acrobatic plays or outrunning anyone. Most, if not all, of TJ's catches were due to running the right route and Carson putting the ball in the right spot. You can even look at this TD catch by Sanu and realize his playmaking abilities and desire to catch the ball.

So now we have to rely on Tate and/or Binns on the outside? That's scary.

Whalen.
If memory serves, Whalen has the worst catch percentage out of all the WR's. Rather see less 4 wide sets and more use of the other receiving options instead of putting Whalen out there.

Tate's the worst at 47.6%. Another reason to have him OFF the field. EDIT: Sorry, 67%; better than Tate, Binns, and juuuuust under Baby Hawk. Furthermore, using his miniscule sample size is ridiculous ![]()

Whalen isnt to terrible might just need some playing time and Kc would be a place to try him out a bit if we were up enough. |

People must have really high hopes for Sanu if they expect him to be "all Housh was and much more". Remember, we're talking about a guy who led the NFL in receptions in '07-08. We're in great shape if he gets anywhere near Housh's level.

Don't get me wrong I would love to see Marvin Jones emerge as a great WR threat but lets stop being Jones homers for just a second because Sanu has proven more and done more for the team this year then Jone's has. Quote:
Non the less it is to early to say he is all Housh was and more. However I do think he has a tremendous upside and the potential to be a huge contributor for years to come. Now the IF, that is if he plays to his full potential.

80% is the worst?

Furthermore, using his miniscule sample size is ridiculous Actually, he's got a 57% reception rate, but you are correct that it is better than Tate (44%), but not better than Binns (62%) or Hawkins (64%),. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/wr Just saying that the guy doesn't have clutch hands and the TE's and RB's are better receiving options, so why try and squeeze this guy in the lineup?

Hawkins is a multi-faceted threat. It's never good to lose players like this. Hopefully the coaches uses Sanu's multiple facets of his game to our advantage....

Let's give Sanu some time to develop. Remember Housh was horrible his first 3 or 4 years as a Bengal and almost got cut in favor of Ron Dugans. Heck, I even remember him having fumblitis and costing the Bengals at least one game due to his butter fingers. So really, if you compare them head to head, rookie seasons, Sanu is already much better than TJ. Completely get your point, but giving you perspective from the other side of the coin.

Hawkins is a vital key this Sunday. Facing a pretty good secondary and his ability to catch underneath and get YAC is crucial.

How you can attribute THAT to not clutch hands (which he has) is dubious. Like I say with PFF stuff, Rugby, you have to take into account context.

Its actually 67%, as he erroneously was given a target on the pick that hit Zeitler in the back of the helmet.
How you can attribute THAT to not clutch hands (which he has) is dubious. Like I say with PFF stuff, Rugby, you have to take into account context. Targets to receptions is a simple measure, even if there is some flaws, such as throw away balls, batted down passes, etc... It is a fair measure because it counts the same to all players, without exception. It takes subjectivity out of the equation, an I appreciate the empirical nature of it. I don't consider 67% to be clutch, especially with such a small sample size. Similar thinking to when people claim Peerman to be the answer at RB because he has a few long runs that bolster his numbers, and he's s change of pace back. The sample is so small, I cannot by the arguement. Same here, with Whalen's small sample size and unimpressive catch percentage.

Hope he can play, but if not hope to see more Orson C. out there with Aj, Sanu, & Gresh, and some Whalen at times.

Upside to having a zillion startable WRs. That said, Hawkins is probably my favorite not named Green.
