He's an inside Linebacker. Of course there is going to be times he's a non-factor. I don't expect a Mike backer to line up over the slot. I don't expect a Mike backer to be lined up on an island with the offense's #1 receiver. I expect a good Mike backer to make drive stopping plays. To be in the right spot at the right time. That's what Te'o does and he's extremely good at it. Yes, he deserves to be up there in the Heisman contention. Your first sentence says it the best, Great college player on a team who is undefeated.

He shouldn't be a Heisman finalist. For all those reasons you said.
Suh was never a non-factor. He was in on every play.
Te'o has had one great game and a few good games and other games where I forget he is on the field.

Go back and watch Charles Woodson's last year at Michigan to see what it takes for a defensive player to win a Heisman. He was absolutely dominant. Teams were so scared of him they just ignored his part of the field on offense. No one worries that much about Te'o. And even with his sheer brilliance on D, Woodson would not have won that Heisman if he didn't return kick offs and play receiver. That is what it takes for a Defensive player to win. Total dominance and undeniably the best player at any spot. It's not fair, but that is how it is.

Suh was a better more dominant player than Te'o has ever been and he didn't win and Te'o shouldn't get as close.

Honestly though, this is not a strong Heisman field, and the award should go to the best player. It usually goes to the best offensive player on the best team.

Te'o is not the player that Woodson and Suh were, but he has less competition than they did.

Barner, Miller, Manziel, Klein, and Te'o are probably the top candidates.

Miller is on an ineligible team, so despite very good numbers and Heisman Moment plays, he likely won't get it.

Will they give it to a freshman?

To get back to the theme of this post. I'm a no on Te'o because I'm a yes on Alec Ogletree from UGA.

Ogletree has played in 4 less games due to a violation of undisclosed team policies. Speculation is he and Baccari Rambo smoked pot over spring break last year. Both received their suspensions when they got drug tested the following week. Ogletree was a high school safety and IMHO is more apt to move with TEs in the NFL.

Either one would come in on the first day and show Maualuga how to do his job. If Te'o is there when we select, take him......If Te'o is gone, trade down, get another 2nd round pick and pick up Ogletree in the 20s! If we win 2 or 3 more games, the chances of us getting Te'o are not good. It looks more and more like we may want to start to look at Ogletree

Absolutely. As we trend down in draft slotting, Ogletree is also seeing his stock rise. He is now averaging being picked @ 29. I had fervently hoped to see him with our first 2nd but that appears to be a fading hope.

Mel Kiper said if KC is the #1 overall pick that they would take Manti Te'o. Discuss how terrible of a decision that would be. (Hopefully this is still linked to that video but)

That would **** off their fan base so much.

KC has a pretty talented team, their QBs just all blow.

Not that this year is particularly strong at QB, they still pretty much have to take a QB if they end up picking #1.

I'd be okay if we grabbed Teo, but I would rather go in another direction.
