Pat Sims?
After 2 games don't the defense seem like they are playing better as a whole? does he really make that much of a difference?

They are, but folks will tell you it's not because of him.

i forget what game it was, but they compared the Bengals with and without Pat Sims. And its amazing how much better the Bengals are when he plays. He's made a huge impact, and it couldnt have come at a better time

He makes a difference. Pat Sims is a great role player on our DL. He makes us better

If Sims makes that much of a difference then you better give him a blank check along with Geno.
I doubt thats it but it sure seems that way doesn't it? |

Sims is one of those players who may not show up with elite stats but he raises the level of play around him. Such players are always problematic to the stat freak crowd as they have no way to account for intangibles.

If Pat Sims makes the Bengals much better (which he seem to do), should the Bengals consider drafting a 1st round dominant run-stopping DT in 2013?

I think Thompson can fill that role. He is just a rook but he should be good.

Why not just keep Sims?

Pass Rushing DE would be better.

I would rather us pick up a safety, outside linebacker, running back, or center before we draft a defensive tackle, that seems to be one of the positions that we are doing all right with. Also, lets see how our Still and Thompson wind up panning out first.

As much as I like peko. I think run support at DT wil go sims/Thompson pass rush still/Geno as far as who starts I don't know. But I like peko being the odd man out.

I'd give Thompson more time to develop before committing a high draft pick to the position.

Hard to do when they are inactive

The DL played pretty well early in the year when they were dressing Thompson,as well. Then, they starting leaving Thompson in street clothes, the DL play went downhill, and we went on a 4 game losing streak. Being able to rotate at NT is a key to keeping the DL fresh and effective,or at least that seems to be the case with this club.

You cant argue that the D has vastly improved since the return of Sims... The only success KC really had running was bouncing it outside.

We're fine on DL for now. We desperately need to draft ourselves LBs and Safeties.

I have been saying it since his injury. We are not the same defense without him.

The defense has now moved up to #17 in the league. If they hadn't had the horrible start that they did, they would be in the top ten easily....maybe top 5. I'm going to call it Zimmer Coaching that did the trick. He's managed to get the most out of his players for the most part in the time that he's been here. Sure, injuries set them back, but he's planned very well.
As for Sims...I think he's a great player, and would be a starter on a lot of teams. Him being in the D-Line rotation does nothing but help it, and keeps fresher bodies out there for the entire time. Gilberry has been playing unexpectedly (at least to me) well this year also. If the D-Line is strong, the whole D is strong, so hopefully they can keep it up and ride it into the playoffs.

I agree. Of all the years Zim has had to fashion a respectable defense out of miscellaneous junk this may be his crowning achievement despite the somewhat lower ranking. That is because I think this year he has REALLY had to work with chop suey even more than previous years.

Maybe we are winning because Nelson has been inactive.

Hoorah. I love to see us draft quality pass rushers but you gotta have some playmakers in that back seven too.

Re: Pat Sims?
I put a post on here last week about pat sims ....He makes us better because the QB cant step up no more when the DNs come around....Theres nowhere to go.....Thats number 1 number 2 he takes 2 guy to block him frees up geno ....Number 3 you aint moving that big boy on a run play he holds the point....Number 4 he keeps the guards off our linebackers ....They cant get to the 2nd level because it takes 2 to block him.......Maybe people dont think so but we sacked the **** out off the gaints and stuffed the **** out of KCs run and they get 158 yard a game on the ground .........I cant be sure hes the reason we are winning now but im glad we are
