I prefer a player who catches the ball more when he is targeted. It doesn't matter to me if the lack of receptions is due to drops, a CB knocking it loose, QB missing a tough throw, receiver not able to get good seperation, etc... I look for the guy with the best percentage for making the reception, which is Gresham over every WR except Green.


I don't want to argue why the catches weren't made. just providing the fact that when he's targeted, Gresham is a very reliable target when compared to the WR's. Everything he didn't catch could be drops, but if his reception percentage is 75%+, that still makes him a great option for Dalton.

I liken it to an opposite of Simpson; his target percentage was garbage last year, mainly due to throw aways to him. Drops were only a small part of it.

Gresh hardly lines up outside and him running across of the middle of the field, he has an easier time of getting catches than an outside receiver would as even though he is targeted, hence the higher catch percentage and more throws.

The drops don't bother me as much because he usually has someone draped over him. Still should catch it if it hits your hands tho....

My problem still lies with the ****-poor route running (jogging or rounding routes) and the alligator arms.

Yeah it is great he played with intensity against a very good player in Eric Berry but he also played scared at times.

What Gresh showed in KC is something I've never seen out of him before. He played with FIRE. He would not be denied. Where has that Gresh been, and will he show up on a regular basis going forward? That reamins to be seen.

The only time you will get that Gresham is in a contract year.

Notice how he looks better with a #2 guy out there like Sanu. It takes defensive attention away from him.

I think Gresham had an overall good game. I won't fault him for the holding call - as I didn't really think that what he did constituted as holding. He is a good player with a good attitude, and I think people are overly hard on him. He plays well for us. Would you like to go back to Dan Coats?

Gresham is the starting TE. As such, he should be going through defenders WITHOUT fumbles. He also should be the reliable target across the middle (as in NO DROPPED BALLS) and should never be seen to be avoiding contact. These are basic elements of the job for an NFL TE.

Do you know how many receivers meet that standard in a given year?

MAYBE 1 or 2.

Note of interest, Right now Gresham has the same number of fumbles Tony Gonzales had in his first 3 years in the NFL.

Hopefully he continues to improve. And i think he will get that chance here. But consistancy will be his key to greatness.

This is exactly how I feel. I want Gresh to be really good for the Bengals, but at some point one begins to worry about these things in his third year. Every mistake has me knee-jerk wondering if the Bengals should trade for Jason Witten and a draft pick. (Again it's knee-jerk, so "logic" and "making sense" never factor into it.)

The thing about this is that it always seems like Gresham's miscues occur at the worst possible times. We're fortunate his teammates picked up the slack this week. Don't get me wrong, I like Gresham, I just think he nees to work on the little details and take his game to the next level. He's got the size and skills to do it.

I'm saying he is what he is and he's who the Bengals have and trust as their starting tight end. This isn't a team made up of 52 All-Pros; you can't expect everyone on the team to do what the best of the best do.

Gresham is a top 20 pick while Coats was an UDFA, a very silly comparison. Compared to the other TEs that went after him in the same draft (Gronk, Jimmy Grahm) Gresham has not played up to their ability.
