I am going to get blasted for this but...
Pick 1...Why not trade up with 1 of our 2 second round picks coupled with our first to grab OLB/DE Jarvis Jones. We are seeing guys like aldon smith, von miller, clay mathews, take over defenses and we need a rush linebacker like that. Someone who can stand up and play outisde linebacker for us on downs 1 and 2, and then on third stick his finger in the dirt and rush. a relentless would only make our secondary that much better and a von miller type playmaker on our defense would be game over for any offense going sagainst us. I say we trade up, and grab
Pick 2...Vaccaro Pick 3...Branden Oliver/Eddie lacey pick 4...Tank Carradine/James gayle Pick 5...Nico Johnson/Mike Mauti pick 6...Marquis Wilson pick 7...De Anthony Thomas even if we trade up we can still come outa this draft ready for feb ha. its possible |

I don't think ANYONE on this board would be opposed to trading up for Jarvis Jones.

I would be all for it, the problem is that just trading a 2nd probably wouldn't work.
Let's just say we pick 16. Jarvis Jones is projected to be a top 5 pick. Not only do we have to move up more than 10 spots, we are trading into the "elite" prospect level. Unless Jones bombs the combine we would probably have to trade our 1st, 2nd (oaklands because it will be higher) and at least a 3rd.

In addition, the teams that are projected into the top 5 would also benefit tremendously in drafting Jarvis Jones. (Cleveland, Jacksonville, Kansas City).

I'd rather them keep the picks and take the next best rushing LB instead, whoever that might be???

It might be the type thing where maybe a couple of qb's get drafted early and maybe Jones will drop some. So the decision might have to made on draft day itself. Trading up beforehand into the very top part of the draft is going to be just too expensive.
Whether or not you think the trade chart is now outdated due to the new signing structure..here it is...http://www.drafttek.com/tradechart.html Last edited by goalpost; 11-20-2012 at 08:21 AM. |

It would cost too much to get into range to draft Jones.
Now if the Bengals could trade a player or two to make it happen, like Peko, I would be all for it. But again, not enough value, and the Bengals aren't stacked with depth anywhere except DT. I could see them settling for Mosley though.

Clay Matthews was drafted 26th overall. Tamba Hali of the Chiefs (one of the best blitzing linebackers in the league) was drafted 20th overall. Just saying you don't have to get into the top 5 or 10 to get an impact linebacker.

Depending on where we end up it could be a possibilty. If we end up somewhere in picks 15-20 like i forsee then I would rule out trading up for a top 5 pick. Our spare second is good trade material though.

Depending on how we finish these last 6 games, I probably wouldn't be opposed to us trading up. If we make the play offs again then it will show that we aren't too many pieces away. We could make a couple GOOD free agent moves, then trade up to get a Super Star.

That's just how the NFL is. Hell look at KC, outside of their OL being decimated by injury, they are a QB away from being a scary team. That defense is sound when healthy. Could use a corner opposite Flowers. But Berry is one of the best young SS in the NFL. Hali, Houston, Poe and Dorsey are very talented. Derrick Johnson is criminally underrated around the NFL. They just are so bad at one spot and it is a crucial spot, that they are 1-9.

Need for OLB will determine greatly on the FA period next season. Not opposed to it. But now with the rookie wage scale the value of those higher picks have skyrocketed and to get one you need to trade the farm to get one. I say we stay put in rounds 1 and 2 and rep the rewards of the CP Trade and fill in the Holes @ RB (replacing Scott and BJGE as starter down the road or immediately) OL Depending on FA and A Smith or a Center S (coaches might not see it as a huge need depending on how the young guys develope over the rest of the Year.) Possibly a CB to go with Kirk As Leon evetually looks to move to FS or something. Who knows. we only have 2 TE's we need better RB's/FBs LB we will need some depth but we get Howard back. I want to keep MJ and Dunlap as our DE's. those OLB that are getting all the sacks and taking over games play in a 3-4 and not a 4-3.... So MLB stud and RB are my biggest priorities.

I understand all the Jarvis Jones love hes a great player, but where would he play on the Bengals? He's not a SAM backer and is way to small to play DE. He needs to be on a 3-4 team. Don't get me wrong if he dropped to us somewhere in the mid 1st you have to take him, but it would be a while before he see's the field. No way in hell would you trade up to get him.

To be fair Miller's athleticism blows Jones' out of the water.

Athleticism and pass rush go to Miller. Everything else Id give to Jones. Jones was originally a 4-3 SLB at Southern Cal. The only thing holding him back will be concerns about his neck.

Marvin loves those tweaner, DE/OLB hybrids, but probably not enough to trade up for it. I think Jones will be a very good player in the NFL.

Why not just draft my man Khaseem Greene with the Oakland pick? So far in 10 games this year:
107 Tackles (9.5 for loss) 5.5 Sacks 6 Forced Fumbles 5 Pass break ups 2 INTs Last edited by bfine32; 11-23-2012 at 02:06 PM. |
