Black Friday Shopping!

So did any of you do the Black Friday thing that started last night? I will not do the midnight thing..I went to Meijer that opened at 6 for a few things..really not into it that it starts Thursday night..So did any of you tough the crowds to get your deals?

FOr some stupid reason, Canadian retailers are doing it again for the second year.

Waste of time and money. Buy all of your stuff online anyways, now or 6 months ago, and you'll pay less all day, err'day.

I do BF, Xmas and regular shopping online.

Black Friday at stores has become over hyped. It's not what it used to be in terms deals. Each year there is less and less at stores.

My wife went to Toys r Us for the buy 1 get 1 and buy 2 get 3 stuff. She got around 200 dollars worth of stuff for 65. She got there at 7pm, waited until 8pm and was home by 9:40pm.

Black Friday shopping is different in California than it is in Ohio. I can't put a finger on what it is, but people out here are 100x ruder than back home. My wife and daughter went out early this morning. They saw three fights, six people taken away in handcuffs, and a store clerk spewing a series of curse words at a customer.

I refuse to participate in that madness. I hate shopping enough, without going out in the middle of the night to fight the hordes.

However, my wife and I made an observation. These "sale" prices are mostly bogus anyway. For example, we had been pricing a 32" flat panel for my stepson, so he has a nice TV for his dorm room. We picked out one for a nice price, in the early fall ($148 at walmart). We saw the same flat panel for $248 at the same walmart just two weeks ago. Well, looking at the black friday ads, what do you think we saw? The same tv, "on sale" for it's original price of $148.

Just one specific example of customers being manipulated by retailers. I'm sure there are thousands more.

And a 18 pack for the halo 4 coop marathon with my buddy...

thats about all the shopping i have in me today. (maybe add on a pack of smokes)

FYI - there usually arent amazing deals

its a price game

Ex: TV is usually 1000

typical sale: - 25% = $750

instead - during the super duper xmas sale

they show the 'original' price at 1500 and show a 50% OFF!!!111!!!

= still $750

As I said, shop around online at anytime of the year, and you'll find cheaper prices all year long.

I fought through the 8:00 Wal-Mart "mess" just for a $3.99 hand mixer. (She took ours. I can't make mashed potatoes.) I fight through, trying to make sense of the map thing they gave me. Finally I walk up, there's one left, I was literally 5 feet from it, and some kid grabbed it and walked over and handed it to some woman with 2 carts packed full.

So I bought 2 - 16 GB Flash Drives. I wasn't going out empty handed.

My Christmas shopping was done in April. I do hit Best buy on Black Friday for stuff for myself. Once you get the tickets the rest is easy. I got a 15.6 laptop for 180.00, 40" TV for 180.00 and a GPS for 70.00. Went out to eat and was home by 2am. My older 2 boys like to go and the weather was nice this year. I stay clear of Walmart.

I went out and about around Irvine this afternoon. The light of day seems to have calmed the nerves of some shoppers. Granted, I didn't go out early this morning, but I've heard enough and seen enough on the news to prove that staying in was a good thing.

My oldest daughter and her family live out here. We're out here until Sunday visiting with them, and then we'll be heading back to Ohio. I can't live out here. It's too fast paced and hectic. Life is played on a different tune out here. I love visiting, but I enjoy leaving as well.

I'm going to the game. My son, son-in-law, grandson, and I will be there in person when Notre Dame completes their perfect season! I've been wearing my Irish hat and polo all day today, and I've run into a few other fans out here. I look forward to walking out amongst the Trojan fans victorious tomorrow night. Of course, I might have to have a security officer walk with us.
