Well then we control our own destiny as we are the ones that can give Pittsburgh that loss. WTS we'd still need them to lose to Baltimore or Cleveland.

They need to lose the next 2 and we need to win the next 2. If we win next week and they both lose all 3 teams will be 6-5, the Steelers hold a tiebreaker over us because they beat us already this year, and I think the Colts have a better record in the AFC so there is another tie breaker.

steelers need another loss besides us. we hold most tiebreakers over steelers if we lose 1 and they lose 2.

Which is the higher tie-breaker: Conference record or Division record? For instance if the Steelers lose to the Chargers are us and we lose to the Cowboys, then:

We are tied head to head
We have a better conferene record
They have a better division record

So who would get the spot?

The Steelers do. So we need them to lose to Cleveland or Baltimore.

Thats not true for the wildcard. Identical conference record we then go to common opponents. Colts already have us locked out in that tiebreaker. due to our loss to dolphins

i might get bashed for this but my only concern is us winning...lol i dont care about what the steelers and colts have to do for us to make it...we put ourselfs in this situation we are in and the only way to get out of it is to win and do it one game at a time

The Colts are on their way back to Earth. The have to play Houston twice. There's your two losses. If they do somehow win one, they also have to play the Bills, Lions and Titans. Losing one of those is very possible.

The Steelers can't beat the Ratbirds any more, for some reason, and the next one's in Balt. In Balt, without Ben, that's a tall order. The rest of their games are very winnable.

We play the Steeles better there than here, but if Ben and Polamalu are back, I don't like our chances. We can't seem to get over the mental hurdle of the idea of beating the Steelers and until that happens, we will struggle against them. There has to be a first time for this group, since so many of them at key spots weren't even here in '09. Maybe something has truly started the past couple weeks and the roll can keep going right into the playoffs.

If the Bengals play a sixty minute game to their capabilities, they can beat anyone. That's the next hurdle--playing strong week in and week out, no matter who they're playing. Start to do that, you got something.

I'm just not sure yet about our playoff chances. It's doable but it's anything but a cinch. I don't count the Steelers out but I don't see the Colts hanging for the rest of the year. Bottom line, though, win out and you're almost certainly in.

hell yeah...i think with ben being dinged up they could drop a couple and with the colts i aint sold on em because of that soft D...i just hope our DBs and LBs keep improving week to week and our to O to keep playing like they have been, if this happens i can see us sneaking in...but we cant no let downs we have to beat the teams we are supposed to and hope the ones we did lose earlier in the season (browns,Dolphins) doesnt come back to bite us

I might be missing something here .... but, considering that we are 5-5 and both those teams are 6-4 right now, isn't it pretty obvious that there's no way for us to get in the playoffs ahead of them unless one of them loses?

Truth.

Fact is 10 wins is likely what it'd take (still might not be off) and we're still a way off that. I'd rather not think about the playoffs right now, and just focus on trying to enjoy our games. Beating the Raiders is the only thing that matters atm. If we're at 8 wins with 3 games, ill think more about the playoffs.
