What the NFL is considering removing is the cut block. A cut block is when you take out the legs of a oncoming defender, usually when you're pass protecting. It's already illegal to cut block a defender in the back of the legs, and it also illegal to cut block a defender who is already engaged with another blocker. As a former lineman, I severely disagree with the removal of cut blocks. The only ready danger from a cut block is that you get a bruise on your shin. I never ripped the NFL for becoming a little more soft in defender/WR hitting, but this is too far in my opinion. I will be pretty upset if they decide to remove this.
