Never thought it'd happen but our running game has finally found a spark and continuity from game to game. After having nothing early in the season we're getting production from our backs when we most need it. Some folks think we should be starting Peerman but I think the current approach is great. Peerman has the explosiveness and elusiveness that're more effective with fewer snaps and keeps the defenses on their heels and BJGE can bring the consistent yards. If we can keep this up we can be a force finishing this season.
I'll admit this may be premature considering we aren't playing teams with great defenses but regardless I like what i'm seeing.

Yes, yes they are making a good combo. Before the season, I was ready to write off Peerman as a career special teamer. Then, after the injury to Scott, Peerman really has stepped up and assumed the role. He is hitting holes with authority, and running hard. If I'm not mistaken, I even saw a flash of vision being demonstrated on that big run he had today.

Peerman was running like a man possessed. BJGE's big runs were on fairly large holes opened by the OL. If the OL keeps playing lights out, anyone in the backfield would put up good numbers. I haven't seen BJGE breaking tackles like I saw from Peerman today. I'd like to see more of that from him. I think the fumble issue has him freaked out at contact in the open field.
Peerman clearly wants to make the point that he belongs on this team and deserves quality PT. That said, I agree, I think he severs us best as a change of pace back. |

Two good games......
Don't get me wrong, I've liked what I've seen....but I'll hold off on saying that they're any good as a tandem. It's great to see Peerman getting a decent amount of snaps though.

It is all starting at the O-line.
I think Robinson and consistency without the in game rotation since the bye week and Whitworth bringing the heat we are looking at nothing but better and better runs. Also since actually using Peerman both him and BJGE are getting better runs and staying fresher. Boling and Zeitler might be the guard tandem everyone in the nfl wishes they could have and our Tackles aren't half bad either. |

Sign Andre Smith now, make Robinson, and Boling the starters, they all earned it. I like how Robinson is getting to the second level and taking on LB, that is something Cook has struggled at. Give Robinson an off season to improve the strength and knowledge and he will be the best OC we have had since Richie got injuried. Bolings is the best Left Guard we have had in years. He is doing better than Whitworth did at LG. Zeitler has also had rookie growing pains, but is showing why he was a 1st round pick. Andre has become an outstanding RT, and is worth what he will get paid on the open market. Whitworth is Whitworth, a top 5 LT, and leader of the O line.

Peerman averaged 7.6 yards a carry.
61 yards on 8 carries. That is great, and he should get more touches, and a few balls thrown his way out of the back field, because when in the open field Peerman is tough to get a hold of. BJGE got 129 yards on 19 carries for a 6.7 yards a carry. The O line should get credit for a lot of this. They were getting to the second level and blocking LB all day long. The Bengals averaged 7.2 yards a carry. It was 216 yards on 30 carries. (I did not count the 5 yards on 4 carries by Dalton) That is O line domination, and RBs hitting the holes.

The line has really stepped up. Resigning Smith needs to be a priority. He has turned into a stud RT.
Still would like to see Peerman shoulder more of the load. I think he can do everything that BJGE can do. On the other hand, I've seen Peerman make some runs that I don't think BJGE can pull off. The run today where he spun out of the tackle for a big gain was beastly.

Running game has really come together at a good time. Really when our season is atm win and keep going or lose and be done (I feel unless we beat both the Steelers and Ravens, we're at must win stage right now), the running game has come up big. Peerman has good great in his limited capacity, id say I wanna see more carries for him, but its working fine atm.

We also had two rookies and a 2nd year player on the O line.
It is games like that that turn 5 guys in one O line, and make all the difference in the world. 5 guys will lose against a good defense, but one O line, will pull together and find a way to win.

Well, at any rate, the offense seems to be working well for the past 3 weeks. The running game has gotten progressively better all 3 weeks. I'm sure that the Raiders defense (or lack of) had something to do with it, but I'd like to also give credit to the backs and the OL for opening those GARGANTUAN holes for those guys to run through.

All teams in the NFL utilize multiple backs for a change of pace and to keep the other fresh, don't understand why it took us so long to incorporate this scheme

I've been wanting Peerman to play for years while he's been on special teams.
What he doesn't have in natural talent he has ALWAYS made up for by working his *** off. The guy is absolutely relentless.

The O-Line is playing great right now. If BJGE is averaging over 6 yards a carry, you have to immediately look at the line (and it was Oaklands defense). I love what I've seen, though. The offense and defense has looked wonderful these past three games.

Oaklands D is bad and KC's run D isnt too great, but we have still shown improvement regardless. I'd say it starts with Gruden and then the line. Marvin eluded to the fact that Gruden has changed a little in formation on some run plays, saying he has been spreading them out more to try to give more space. If thats the case than I'd say its making a difference.
I do like what Peerman is doing though. He's running good. |

They beat down two bad teams.
Let's see it happen against 2 good defenses, or when the Bengals don't have the luxury of simply grinding and playing from ahead for 2/3 of the game.

Two games of 200+ yards on the ground is more than just beating bad teams. We had an injury bug that set us back big time at the beginning of the season. You could see glimpses of good run production against PIT and DEN after we got healthy.
I think it's just a combo of gelling and running hard until the whistle blows. We may not put up 200+ yard on the ground but we could manage 100+ plus I think to giving out passing game some balance. We have a pretty easy schedule coming up and I think we stick with the ground game even when it's not working so well. That's what good teams do. |
