Most important players to resign this season

We all know Geno HAS to be resigned, otherwise I will lose all faith in the FO. But other than Geno, who deserves to be resigned before the season is up or at least right away after the season?

Geno is #1
Gresham #2
Burfict #3 (he's playing on a UDFA salary and I believe he has outplayed that by a lot...I know he's only a rookie)
Adam Jones #4 (he has been playing solid football)


So far this season, Geno has been the best player at his position for sure. Gresham is a good solid TE, if we let him go we will either have to sign a big name TE in FA, or draft another TE within the first two rounds. I say just resign him and keep things gelling with Andy and his weapons.

People will be confused about resigning Burfict, but he showed he had faith and heart when he contacted Marvin. I think we need to show him the same and resign him to keep him here for a long time.

Other than that, who do YOU believe we need to resign?

Honestly, the ONLY priority we have is resigning Geno. That is all I ask. We don't need Rey, we don't need MJ (he is a product of Geno and Dunlaps play), we def don't need Manny Lawson either. I would rather resign Burfict to a legit deal than resign Rey or Manny.

Is no one arguing about Adam Jones? I think he can be a solid #2 corner for us next season as long as he is healthy. Terrance and Nate are probably gone after this season and I wouldn't mind seeing Leon, Adam, and Dre line up as our starting corners. If Ghee was as good as people said, maybe resign him. He should be super cheap.

I never knew that. I always thought resigning could be done at any point. I only want to resign him to inject him with a bunch of confidence. If the team shows they are wlling to stick up for him, he probably would play way harder for us knowing we had his back. I really think Burfict can be an animal.

Plus, I'd rather have him over Rey and Manny anyday. Higher ceiling

The new CBA changed up the method of re-signing guys on their rookie deals. Guys taken in the 2011 draft and beyond have to play 3 seasons before you can negotiate a new deal. Players taken before that draft can be negotiated whenever. We extended Peko and Whit after only two seasons.

However, this will be Geno's third year overall so it doesn't matter. The bottom line is that his extension should be priority #1 during this offseason so we can focus on AJ and Andy the following offseason.

I do agree that Geno and Andre are the musts. Since we CAN'T resign Burfict yet, what about Thomas Howard? Will he be back to form by next season?

I believe the new rules in the CBA prevent us from renegotiating Burfict until after his 3rd year in the league. Michael Johnson is a big one to get reupped for me. He will be an UFA after this year.

What?? How can MJ be a product of Dunlap when he has better stats than Dunlap? You don't get 8 sacks 2/3 of the way through a season by luck. It's either skills or steroids but far from just being lucky to have guys around him.

The same way Robert Geathers got a fat contract because of Sam Adams and Justin Smith.


MJ is a great player but a lot of his sacks have been clean up sacks while QBs scramble away from Geno and Dunlap.

This has already happened. We gave him a shot to get on a 53 man roster when no one else even thought about drafting him. Then we show the confidence in him to allow him to start. I'd say the team has stuck up for him plenty already. I'm willing to bet Burfict feels appreciated enough.

Since you're asking, why didn't you include in your post all of the players that have contracts expiring after this season?

That would've been nice so that we could actually rate/judge them all. Geno, Gresham, Andre and MJ currently goes with out saying that they need to be retained.

Then please explain the sacks he gets when neither is on the field... Why do people continue to down play MJ? He is athletically more gifted than Dunlap, he is also not made of glass like Dunlap. If you ask me I would rather make sure to keep Johnson than Dunlap based off of production and durability. Carlos had 1 good season and hasnt been on the field consistently since. Why are people hating Johnson?

Atkins isn't a free agent. I agree that we must extend him though. Burfict has about 3 years left on his deal.

Remember, Burfict's issues in college were with attitude. I want to see him get through a full offseason and stay out of trouble and come into next season prepared before I give him more money. You want him to have to continue to earn his keep. Some guys can't handle the money especially if they had existing issues.
