Default Are the Bengals this bad, or did they play a bunch of chumps...

They caught the Giants, but then played two bad teams and the fans assumed the Bengals were world beaters.

Question is, are the Bengals playing this bad, or are they simply not a good team to begin with?

It's always tough to travel and win a game on the West Coast, but the Bengals did it.

We are a good enough team to win most games if we dont beat outselves. Only the Ravens really whipped us this year We pretty much blew our other losses with plethora's of missed opportunities. Since then the D has gotten better, and that was the only difference today. Our offense tried to give it to them, but the defense held. If our offense and defense both plays well, we are a legit playoff caliber team.

Had nothing to do with anything but turnovers can't turn it over against even bad teams lucky to win

Dalton threw a pick six. San Diego scored 13 total points. We should win the rest of our games if we play this poorly and hold everyone to 13 points. I doubt Dalton will throw a pick 6 in each of the next 3 games. Marvin Jones had the other pick go right through his hands. BJGE had over 100 yards rushing again, and the line opened some nice holes. We created some turnovers and got pressure on Rivers. I didn't notice our run defense struggling on the 10 or so attempts they made. Where did you see where they played poorly?

I was a little disappointed with the offensive struggles. Though we were on the road and I think SD defense is ranked 12th

This would have been another blowout if it were not for the turn overs.

If there's one thing I've learned in my 20+ years of watching NFL football: never discount any team, even if they're 0-15. The NFL is too dynamic today — you never know what's going to happen week-to-week.

A win is a win.

Agreed. Gresham - Jones - Andy 3 turnovers that could have been / should have been points. Their D never really stopped us. Stupid penalties and turnovers killed us. We'd better rebound next week. Marvin better use this as motivation to re-focus.

Is San Fran bad for losing to the Rams on the road today?

Exactly. Anyone that follows the league week in and week out knows this.

Loss of Sanu was telling. Dalton forced a lot of throws that he normally wouldn't since the only deep threat was AJ and they mostly had him covered, allowing the LBs to joing the DL in pressuring Dalton.

If we had a second medium deep threat then they would have had to pull some of the pass rush off, and Dalton would have cut them up.

As it was, at least one of the ints was off the receiver's hand (Gresham's) because a panicked Dalton had to zip it to get rid of it before he got hit. I don't think Gresham was much of a factor in the passing game after that. The shot on the bench of Gresham twisting hia jaw was ..... well, I don;t know how to describe it.

What's happening is this team is coming of age, maturing to the point where mistakes don't get in the way of winning games. The Bengals of as recently as earlier this season would have "come close" to winning this game, but not today's Bengals.

Bad:
Gresham with the fumble(what else is new).
Marvin Jones caused a tip drill int.
Andy threw another pick 6.

Good:
Green-Ellis had another great day.
Andy came through in the clutch with a rushing TD.
The defense held the Chargers to 2 FGs all game.

Not a bad day, but like someone else said, the sure hands of Sanu were missed.

Andy had a pretty bad game. Easily could've been a 27-13 game.

I guess I should have limited my commentary to Dalton, as his performance was the one that put me in a mood. A pair of INT's, with one going for a pick 6. People would hang old Palmer for the same stat line.

In addition, all the fumbles?

Thankfully the defense came to play and bailed out the team. Amazed they did so well in spite of all the bad spots the offense put them in, turnovers.

People were ripping Palmer because he was putting up that stat line more often (from 2008-10) than what Dalton is right now. Plus he was not putting up the production that Dalton is this year. Dalton is on pace for 4k yards and 36 total touchdowns. That makes a couple picks (one completely on Marvin Jones) easier to forgive.
