Just wanted to give him some serious props. He comes in off of the streets at mid-season, in playing shape, steps right in, and immediately improves the defense.
The defense has played much better with Chris in there and the team has reeled off four in a row. He looks healthy this season and is showing the younger safeties how it's done. Great job!

Nice post. I never thought I would see the day around here when people are giving Crocker the credit he is due. Now,...I'll admit, he didn't always deserve a whole lot of it, but this year, he's worked out great for the Bengals. I'm glad they brought him back in.

It also says alot about the level of safety on the team. This position will need to be a priority this off season. He is a great defensive leader and has a great defensive mind, too bad his body is breaking down.

We need to make sure we keep Crocker around until we are positive we have a SS who can fill and and make the right calls in the secondary. I honestly think that may have been one of the biggest reasons for our slow defensive start.

I agree, Crocker has really improved our defense.

Re: Chris Crocker
This is the reason his play wasn't very good last season. Chances are most of the year he was playing through injury. Being able to get surgery over the off-season and have all the time through camp, pre-season, first couple games to rest; has really made the difference in his ability to perform. I think the guy just got run down over the last couple seasons and never had a real chance to recover. Now, he's reconstructed and refreshed and making some nice plays. I haven't seen him lay the big hit on anybody yet this season though, that's something I miss from early in his career. The guy has shown he's a bit of a ball-hawk though and we can definitely use some more of that.

It was stated earlier in the year that Crocker was brought it to run the show on D. If the dude can at least play at an average level and make sure our guys are lined up alright, we'll be okay.

Crocker is playing very well and arguably playing the best football since he's been a Bengal, with maybe 09 being better.

The defense has played at a much higher level after Crocker returned.
He deserves a lot of credit. Good thinking by Marvin and Zim to re-sign him ! |

That's probably bc they sat him down and was like, "you pull that garbage like you did in last years playoff game and your gone." He knows this is probably his last chance anywhere, so he's making good and playing sound and intelligent football. A little more missed tackles than I'd like to see but he's worked out well so far this year.

He has played well and helped our D. I'm all for bringing him back next year.

Without looking at the actual numbers, the guy has to be leading the D in interceptions. Not that that's saying too much for our team and its lack of them, but still.

Re: Chris Crocker
Yes, I believe he has three with Newman second holding two from the Broncos game. As you say, not a lot of picks to brag about but, he's still at the top and the one he does have have been in key situations.

And he hasn't played in that many games since he started the season watching the games from home.

We picked up Iloka this year in the draft and he may make an impact next year. I liked how he looked at Boise and was high on this pick when we grabbed him. We'll see how that pans out with him making calls if he gets the chance.

Love the hit he did in Santonio Holmes in a TNF in 2008 @PIT, the commentor said: "Chris Crocker, with the ROCKER! Baboom!"
He is playing well, but is old. |

I liked him a lot too, but he looked terrible in preaseason. I hope he continues to develop because he has great physical tools.

Yeah, I saw a couple of flashes during pre-season (forced a fumble, I think), but nothing compared to his play at Boise. His skill set is there, let's just hope the coaches coax it out of him and get it to transfer to the NFL level. The guy can hit when he's out there.
